ive added a plugin that should limit the size of images. I dont want to entirely do away with images, but i also dont want folks to have to explain why their entire screen was taken up by a giant laughing lizard gif. this at least should make images a little more manageable.

I really like this. I manually downsized the pictures I posted earlier because I didn't want to stretch the page but now I won't have to.

I think itll be the best solution will find, as people will still be able to see the images, but it wont be quite so obvious whats going on. if theres any other things folks think would be good to have or change let me know and i can see what i can do/what plugins are available. they apparently have a zombie game that works something like ayag.

I'm assuming there's no way to directly upload images to the forum? That was always what bugged me the most about the old one.

Very nice sven but HOW ABOUT YOU TELL ME HOW YOU DID THAT.

huh turns out it is possible.
when you reply, the actual reply page has an "add attachment" button you can add stuff too. that lets you upload stuff directly from your computer
however, were also limited to 200mbs for all attachment it looks like, so I would say avoid using that (just directly link to the image instead) otherwise ill have to go through and delete stuff when we get over that limit.

Hmm, ok. Photobucket etc are blocked on my PC so I guess I'm at the mercy of the internet.

Did you ever get around to seeing if you could backup the old forums? Though I'm mostly ambivalent at this point and I think I may have been the only one who cared. oh, sorry, i didn't see this thread at all (wow, i didn't know the forums went all the way down here) Sven made a backup of the old website, which I was successfully able to import into my own website's database (I accidentally took the whole thing down for a while though). I made a "cirhp.mywebsite.com"-style sub-domain for it, so after I figure out how to tie the database to the sub-domain from the MySQL (I've never done this before and all the info I've found related to this is hilariously obtuse) the site will continue to exist as it always has, just in a different place. So basically, assuming everything goes according to plan, it's going to be a view-only archive on the internet that you can just look at if you want to reminisce or whatever. Also, RE: IMAGES I use postimage.org/ whenever I use images on this forum (and the old one). Just upload your image and copy the URL listed in the "direct link" field and then insert it into your post. The great thing about Post Image is that it removes all tags associated with the image, so it shouldn't be picked up by any workplace filters. The new forums let you add attachments (which solves that problem), but I still use Post Image out of habit.

I've been using imgur but yeah, using an external image hosting service is probably better, especially since uploading onto the forum has a 1mb cap.

I can up the cap, but again, as we only have 200mb, I think it would be smart to then say you can only attach files or documents for the conference room directly.

Also when was this backup made? There are still posts being made, so @eternal Overlord are you going to make a new backup before it goes down completely?

well, that it is a possibility, but that would require graeme to do the whole thing over again. I can make a copy when we take the site down next week, but honestly the only thing not on the back up is the stuff that nate's been posting.

I feel like the top 10 list is worth backing up! It's only from one person's point of view but is still interesting and a nice wrap-up for the forum, I think.

All these image sites are still blocked for me. I'll just have to only post images when they REALLY count.

did someone screw with the "new" button and the "next page" button
cos now i'll click on a thread, and it won't bring me to the first unread post, but like, a little downwards so i have to scroll up to find the last unread post
also clicking "next" no longer brings you back to the top of the page and i am outraged
who responsible this

I've noticed the having to scroll up after clicking NEW thing too. I didn't know about Next bringing you back to the top of the page, but in my browser there's a little square thing on the side (kind of looks like one of those little square band-aids) and if you click it it brings you up to the top.

Increased the post per page to 30, let's see if that helps.

im not seeing either of these two problems where i am at all, so i cant say i know whats wrong.
i havent fiddled with anything lately so hopefully the situation sorts itself out

figured out why you need to scroll up a bit
when the images resize it takes a second. so you are automatically taken to the post, but then in image heavy threads, they all get resized which brings the forums back up.
no i dont know if i can fix it.
just post smaller images people
