ive never taken the whole "give yourself a kanji name as a foreigner" thing (i hiss whenever non slavs give themselves patronymics. my hulemdos american russian professor forced his students to call him richard markovic ;kajs; cringe)
but i gave myself 百合愛 once because im tragically gay and love bad jokes

I'm not sure I understand the name thing you mentioned (as I'm a non slav myself), so he wasn't Russian and gave himself the surname Markovic or he just added the 'ovic/vic' part on the end?

yeah, so we dont really do by first name-last name as much as first name-patronymic, which is your dad's first name with ovna (for women) or ich (for men) attached to it. it works for russian names but not for random ones. hes not russian and neither are his parents, but he gave himself this pseudo russian name. it was uncomfortable.

Oh I see, okay, I didn't realise that was how Slavic surnames worked~
That does sound really awkward of that guy then in that case yeah >,<;;;

I'm going to throw my hat in and say I disagree with place name cheeky huleezus.
I don't think they're bad or anything, I enjoy them as much as the next person, but I don't think they should be forced on.

hohoEMIsen Is that too obvious though? I thought one of the intentions behind cheeky HULEEZUs is to obfuscate the original meaning as much as possible. hue. That said, I don't have any alternatives. The only thing I could think of is Star is Pole and that sounds horrible. HAHA.

meeeh i wouldnt go as far as to say that. i see cheeky huleezus as a part of CHIRP GO and that you can figure it out yourself (Eastern Capital anyone?) with context and only sometimes needing someone quickly explaining it something to tickle the brain but not break it?

I don't know if this is the right place to say this but whenever I use the mobile version of the site these days every link I click on leads me to some virus popup site. I don't know if this is something that can be fixed, or is there an app or something?

I don't know if this is something that can be fixed, or is there an app or something? I tend to get this problem as well, but I found if I use the Firefox Focus browser app I don't get them, as it blocks popups, so that might help? Would be better if the virus popups could be prevented from appearing at all but ^^;;;
