Yeah, I was specifically talking about work when I said I would hate it if people called me ちゃん. That said there are some people who are regularly called by something that's not their last time - the 40-something woman in my section is often called firstnameちゃん and she outranks everyone but kacho and seems perfectly okay with it. I've definitely heard people younger than her call her that too, although people my age don't...
Most people in my section 呼び捨て me and that's fine with me, because they asked if it was okay. soup at least said that he feels weird calling non-Japanese people さん (if he knows them well, he obviously wouldn't 呼び捨て someone he doesn't know) because it's not their culture. I know that some people would be upset by that because they want to be seen as the same as everyone else but for some reason it's not something that particularly bothers me. Maybe cause I get on with them. If it was people I didn't like I'd hate if they 呼び捨てed me.

I dont actually notice when people 呼び捨て me. LOLLLL. My name is very simple and almost Japanese like so most people can say it really easily. and it has the "s" in it so I honestly don't really notice if -san is attached or not unless I pay attention.
I did notice that two people stopped calling me with -san after a while without asking me because for one of them, I suppose he felt more comfortable that way and because he is much older than me (40s) I give it to him. However, the other coworker is also late 20s and I get the feeling that sometimes it's just part "i am bigger than you" vibe that makes him drop the -san.
Not that I actually care really. hue.
Just putting it out there.
It reminded me also how I used to HATE being called -san in the past when I first started learning Japanese because I didn't want to create a barrier, but now, if I don't get called that by KOUHAI or something, I get offended lolz.
