Hello colleagues,
Does anyone have experience with bringing やさしい日本語 to your town? I'm trying to get some examples of successful implementation, so any that other CIRs were involved in will get me bonus points I think. So far I've got some examples of municipalities making pin badges (Yasashii nihongo dekiru/onegaishimasu style), putting out disaster information in YN, and using Tsutaeru Web (automatic furigana service). This is my first mostly independent project so any advice will likely help me a lot! Thanks in advance!

We aren't really doing anything in my city T_T
Here's an example of a nearby city having a yasashii nihongo (and multilingual) spread in their kouhou. If you click on the yasashii nihongo file you can see they write info like about medical stuff, events etc in their city. (Not sure if their CIR was directly involved in getting this started, though.)

I'm not directly involved, but my city is actively putting out yasashii nihongo for their COVID things.

I couldn't find the city hall stuff on やさしい日本語 (iirc they used to have the occasional seminar or sth on it, I can't remember if we offered stuff in やさしい日本語 though) But I did find this on APU's page about a workshop they did a few years back And also a couple of other articles, this one about providing evacuation info in やさしい日本語 and having workshops about that This very short article mentions that Beppu and northern Oita-ken city Nakatsu have apparently been chosen as model/test districts for some kind of new やさしい日本語 initiative being promoted by the prefectural BOE Thought it might help since it has the added bonus of being in a prefecture right near you Spring-Flowersboy =3

Yasasyi japanese* is something both of my offices (KOKUSAIKA and international association) work on and provide. ie. with the rona stuff, we have the info in japanese, YASASI japanese, english, and chinese that said, we just... figure it out? afaik no one has had real training. we just figure it out. it does help that most of my offices have dealt with non-native speakers a lot (esp at 2nd office) and the current TANTO here is one of the many bilinguals (but still a native japanese speaker so only half point ne) anyways, with our BOUSAI practice, yasashii nihomgo came up again and in the KAIRAN afterwards, this manual was also included and i assume it will be helpful! it also mentioned a resource to translate japanese into yasashii japanese? www.moj.go.jp/isa/support/portal/plainjapanese_guideline.htmli always struggle with what to call this or YASASYI EIGO in english and this manual used "plain english" and i am both grateful and terribly annoyed with myself for only coming up with "easy to understand" (long) or "simple english"

I noticed today while looking for something else that my old department seems to be using やさしい日本語 in their notices to residents on their Facebook page now
