Hey! Since the placements are starting to come in for the 2021 folks, I thought I'd start a new thread for it. ^^ Congrats to everybody so far!! And for those still waiting, don't worry, it'll come. Deferred 2020 folks can also feel free to post here if you want, or use the 2020 thread if you prefer! And without further ado.....

this might be the start of my villain origin story I'm in Akita (rip my requests for anything other than Northern Tohoku) and I think I'm a prefectural advisor, which I absolutely did not want to do during my first year. I don't even know how to feel, but regardless I should be grateful for the job. Guess when I finish crying, I'll start looking for fun things to do there.

Congrats to you and katelyn on getting placed!! I know it's not what you'd hoped for, but on the bright side they have namahage (a VERY fascinating custom, and if you have a Netflix subscription and you're interested in it you should watch 泣く子はいねぇが before you go to learn more & also hear some killer Akita-ben) and they also have the fluffiest, most gorgeous dogs there, so that's pretty awesome! Also I know a CIR leaving Akita-shi soon! And I also knew her pred (or maybe it was like... her pred's pred? What is that a super pred? hue) and was the one who introduced them!

I think I got all the negative feelings out, so I'm feeling better I really like hougen, so I guess I'll try to master akita-ben while I'm there. There are also a lot of active taiko groups in Akita, which I didn't know, but am super interested in! :0 I wonder if she's my predecessor? I got double ken for my placement but looking at JET stats, there are 7 prefectural CIRs in Akita...I'm not sure what their nationalities are, but hopefully this means I'm not automatically a PA?

I was in Iwate for 3 years. I can imagine that would be pretty disappointing if you literally wanted anything outside of Northern Tohoku... I guess on the bright side Akita City is waaaay more accessible than 99% of Tohoku, which is pretty darn inaka hue. I don't know if your into mountains/hiking/hot springs etc but Akita has some really mystical and gorgeous places out there that I love :)

At least for Akita, their AJET wiki says that the English prefectural CIR is automatically the CIR-PA. I know that I'm working in the prefectural office since I got a double ken placement, but I'm not sure if I'll be the only English CIR/if the current CIR-PA is leaving yet. In the placement emails, it says that prefectural CIRs will most likely be working in their placement's prefectural government office (which includes the department that CIR-PAs work in). Tokyo could have a very different system though, so if you can't find any Tokyo-specific info right now, all we can do is wait for our COs or preds to reach out

In my case, after messaging with a couple of the other CIRs going to my area, I learned it's also possible to have multiple CIRs in a kencho and where I'm going you aren't automatically the CIR-PA even if you got a prefectural placement. And yeah, I'm sure Tokyo is really different!
Also the PA can be an ALT? Which is happening where I'm going as well. Idk if that means there's also going to be a CIR-PA as well... really all we can do for now though is sit tight and wait to hear from COs and preds!

Almost every prefecture has at least one CIR PA, one ALT PA and one Japanese PA (often the CIR PA's supervisor). Some places have larger teams, bus that's usually the minimum. In a lot of cases, a prefectural CIR will just be the PA from the start (this was my case!)
That being said, if I remember correctly, Tokyo doesn't have any PAs!(See below)

I met the CIR working at the tocho and an ALT one for one of the municipal outer cities (non 23ku) at the PA conference once. And I've heard the tocho CIR PA position is open atm just ご参考に... If you are PA, how much PA work you do will definitely vary depending on the position tho. In my case I am mostly a PA in name only, have only done explicit PA work a couple times. Like with all JET stuff, it's the dreaded "ESID" hue

Hello, I'm an incoming CIR to Mie-Prefecture. I haven't heard anything more specific regarding placement, but it looks like I am most likely going to be a prefectural CIR. Thanks for reading, hope I posted this in the correct spot ;;

I know some people were speculating that most COs would reach out to us within 2 weeks, but I guess that's not the case... Has anyone been contacted by their pred or CO yet?

I've been told by my embassy that we would be contacted by our CO/pred when departure dates are announced, and someone in Australia had apparently been told the same!
