Microsoft word automatically creates a longer dash when you type: [word 1] space [ hyphen] space [word 2] space
Spaces are good you mean the bolded? i know how to input en- and em-dashes its just... i cannot remember which to use and my googling is just confusing me right now so this one, i am going with "peaches (en-dash) there are" i have a similar question. when you have a clause that further describes something but is not essential to the sentence, is it a comma, an en- or an em-dash? ex. "(blah blah sentence that can be a complete sentence but we continue with)... in addition to being the birthplace of X, the first Y." "... the birthplace of X, the first Y."

I think the em-dash is for clauses and the en-dash is for hyphenated words? basically you went with the right one, I think i'm confused by the second bit about commas, can you give me a real sentence to work with? haha

i... think i am going to go with em dashes for both... (no spaces on either side) but the better explain the bottom one it was I would say: MARU is a onsen town with 300 years of history in addition to being the birthplace of the Y Geigi, the first geisha in the region.I believe the rule is you use a comma when it is a separate, non-essential clause giving further info. The dash gives me the nuance that you are actually stressing what follows it by creating a ~dramatic pause~, and therefore it is not a further tidbit of info but actually the crux of the sentence. i think idk my brain is fried

I don't know why this one paragraph is giving me so much trouble.. does this sound ok?
Magma, melted rock that is emitted from volcanoes, is created when minerals are separated from the peridotite rock that is formed in the upper mantle. As for the “Horoman Periodite” that makes up Mt. Apoi, various types of peridotite rock are exposed on the surface including peridotite that contains magma components and peridotite where the magma has escaped. Mt. Apoi becoming known around the world as a valuable place to see what was created within the mantle on the surface of the earth.

TIL "peridotite" haha The final sentence sounds a bit off to me, though. How about: Mt. Apoi is world-renowned as a valuable location to see the inner workings of the mantle (while still) on the surface of the earth.

I also dont understand what the bolded is getting at. but i have some suggested edits below. take them with a grain of salt Magma, melted rock that is emitted from volcanoes, is created when minerals are separated from the peridotite rock that is formed in the upper mantle. Mt. what is the context?

Oh, sorry I forgot to say. It can't be a sentence, as it's a checkbox on a survey. (Q: What are you interested in doing while in Japan?)

just... "food"? unless they are thinking specifically about food you can walk around with. if that case "street food"?

It is different from street food, according to soup. Tourism where the point is eating, and you walk around town going to different restaurants and food stalls and ordering small items before moving on to the next place.

Restaurant/eatery Crawl?
otherwise... i dunno. maybe since i dont have your work in front of me but i think "Food" should be fine? unless they have another "Food" option already

yeah, soup said no to restaurant crawl when I suggested it, since it includes food stands. I'll just go with "Food" and call it good, since there's no real way without a full sentence. Gastrotourism would be nice, but this survey will go out to non-natives as well, so simple is better I think.
Thanks everyone!

Cantamen, kind of late to the party, but "Food Tours" are actually a thing these days. You could also go with "Culinary Travel"

question about public bathroom toilet levers.
do you "push the lever down to flush" or do you "pull the lever down to flush"
or does it not matter?
