Yeah I like "Air and Sea Tourism Promotion Office" I think. I was trying to figure out a way to make the "tourism promotion" bit less clunky but idk

Promotion is such a shit word in 課 names. Obviously you're promoting it. Especially with something like Tourism.
I would just cut it out and do Air and Sea Tourism Office.

.... Can you do that? I don't think so though because tourism isn't only about promotion so there maybe subdivisions Basically the Japanese prefer to be extremely extremely extremely specific, so just give it to them.

Local Trains Promotion Division?
I'm not sure about the name, but TONIKAKU I think you can ignore the part about them being parallel.

is "industry" an okay translation for 工業 if it's in a 課 name?
農業水産商業工業課
The Agriculture, Fisheries, Commerce, and Industry Division?
idk, i don't love the word industry because it seems super general and i have no idea what it's actually referring to, but idk if manufacturing is correct?

Post by CaptainSeery on Apr 18, 2017 9:24:48 GMT 9
Yeah, industry is vague (agriculture, fisheries, and commerce could all fall under industry, so it sounds redundant.) I feel like manufacturing might be what they're looking for, but in this case it would probaby be best to actually ask someone in the 課 what they do.

先端技術推進室 (in the Enterprise Location Division of the Economic Affairs Department) Ooh did not know this thread existed! Advanced Technology Promotion SITU? If it were in a sentence I would translate 先端技術 as "cutting-edge technology" but I don't know if that sounds good in an official name...

Post by miscreative on Mar 8, 2018 11:54:56 GMT 9
i think i might actually go with that. we played with "cutting-edge" but are assuming their focus is on HATTEN and SUISIN and not just SUISIN of existing stuff.
"cutting-edge" feels like it is already recognized as such? whereas advanced is more broad?
i dunno i just wanted to be done with it and super didnt disagree so we are going with it
