what ever happened to this? (i'm looking to see whether i posted my ○○の京都 saga on these forums or the old ones, and came across this) I think we went with something with relaxing or refreshing, I can't find the doc and I'm kinda busy to search for it (could ask but don't want to get up) I don't recall what saga you're referring to just by that...

So Urayasu (where Disney is) is having a festival and their tagline is 未来への絆~浦、安かれ~ which is a play on the town's name 浦安, like "inlet sea/bay, be at peace and don't kill our sailors".
I have a couple options, what do you guys think? 1. 意訳 it with something like "Ties to the future: the calm Urayasu bay" (obviously something better than that though) 2. Drop it entirely and explain the title in the body 3. Come up with a new pun somehow

I feel like coming up with a similar pun would be very difficult (though maybe I am underestimating your punning ability), so I would go for 1 or 2 or maybe a combination of both?

安かれ is the 日本語 Christ uses in the bible for "peace be unto you" (with a よ at the end for the old command form) But yeah, you probably shouldn't use that I like option #3. I believe you could do it

OK gonna not put scripture in this event title. I'll see if I can pun it and if not I'll probably try 1/2 as snell said...
さあpenguin I'm pretty sure it's time travel

Flier for the 32nd National Urban Greenery Fair Aichi
Headline is 「花と緑の夢あいち」
Right now it's "Flower, Greenery, and Dream Aichi" *finger gun in mouth*
I'm at a loss here. PR CIRs or otherwise, help?

Er...
Aichi: Flowers, Greenery, and Dreams?
Not much better, huh. I hate having to translate 緑.
Actually I don't even know what it's trying to say - Aichi is a dream place for flowers and greenery? Aichi is a dream of flowers and greenery? Is it 花と緑の夢|あいち or 花と緑の|夢あいち?

(Let me take you down, cause I'm going to) Flowery Fields Forever The Green Dream Flowers of Aichi Aichi: Land of Flowers Dreaming of Flowers in Aichi
But seriously though, I would just drop all pretense of a literal translation. Especially the 夢 part.

I feel like you've done this before. Have you ever considered getting a job involving translation? I would love to be ザ real translator one day. I mean sure, it's easy if you're given free reign to basically ignore the original text. Mine was a wonderful translation that knew it was firmly under the boot of AITI KENTYO.

After moving up to Seattle, right? Redmond Dude, everything within around a 40 min driving radius around the city proper just kinda becomes the "Seattle" area. Unless you're from Tacoma, people seem to know Tacoma for some reason. At least this has been my experience being from a city whose name sounds like a highway

Mine was a wonderful translation that knew it was firmly under the boot of AITI KENTYO. Yeah it's definitely harder if you have to stick closely to the original text. That's why I'm more interested in localization than straight up translation. I've always adhered to the Ted Woolsey school of translation. For me it's more important that the translation feels natural to the target audience while retaining the flavor of the original. Ideally the audience wouldn't even know that what they're reading has been translated. That style doesn't work for 行政 or really technical translations, but that's not what I'm interested in anyway.

As I was leaving out the door, she said "Watch out for the prostitutes!" Like, I always saw signs saying saying Anti-prostitution patrol area or whatever whenever I would drive through DesMoines-Seatac, but like, is it really that prevalent?

I would have to walk International Blvd/99 to go to the light rail station every day for grad school from my apartment (which was pretty ghetto looking from the outside, but really sweet on the inside). I always usually wear dresses (just easier to coordinate) and I always worried that drivers would be thinking I was a prosty. Never had the issue though (or bumping into them). I've only seen them in Aurora area. Everyone I usually passed by looked like recent African or Middle Eastern immigrants. I just stuck out like a sore thumb as a white girl in that area. But people were nice... Oh gawd, I miss Des Moines and Australian meat pie. ;=;
