Maybe it comes from a mindset of being better prepared or something
I feel like one thing that makes JETs really good at their jobs is how flexible we can be, even when coworkers don't tell us about something until literally right before the event starts or something. We still manage to pull through, somehow, and get it done
whereas sometimes I feel like Japanese people (not generalizing, not -all- Japanese people obviously) can't always cope with last minute changes/something unexpected happening
so to compensate for that, they come over-prepared (so by having like every kind or piece of gear/tool/whatever that might even remotely have a chance of being needed)

I dont know if I have anything to add but I just want to say that this thread feels so validating
Im so glad that Im not the only one who struggles with this question
EDIT: I lie, I have plenty
· Putting money on the tray instead of just... in people's hands · Everything being narrated (ambulance shouting IM TURNING LEFT. Also on the bus and at the reji) · Pretty much white bread only · Hamubaagu · 通帳 · How detailed the weather forecast is · So many events · Pink being a shade of red (obviously it is, but I grew up being told it was a colour in its own right) · Tenji burokku · Separate bath and toilet · Trash separation stuff · Heated toilets
