I didn't know whinge was an Australian thing, but now that you mention it I guess I've only heard Australian people say it... I also didn't realise this. Actually there have been a bunch of times where I was speaking to non-Australian Jets and something just unexpectedly didn’t TUJILU. Like bottle shop. I don’t think fanny is Australian. At least, to me it just sounds like old fashioned British slang for lady bits.

I think fanny is also british english?
I just think it's funny that it's a little kid word for "butt", like "tushy" or "bumbum" or something in America

I think the first time I heard it used as butt was on the simpsons as ‘fanny pack’ and I remember being super shocked because it didn’t click immediately that the meaning was different. Like I guess it’s on the front but LEWD. Ps. I love your dp.

I've definitely heard it used in Australia, though I can't actually attest to whether it is actually Australia

I am doing a Christmas themed visit to a high school for disabled children. I was instructed to "think of them as middle or elementary schoolers" but I don't think that will work. Not all of these kids will have mental disabilities- some of them will be physical.
Can anyone who has been to a 障害 high school advise? What kinds of 障害 will I be working with? Mostly mental? Mostly physical (and does this include blind/deaf students?)?
The school wants me to cook, and then play a game. Should I be worrying about fine dexterity issues, or am I safe to use playing cards? I thought BS (Lie Detector is the kiddy name) might be fun, since both American children and adults like to play it, and the English is pretty much just numbers. Though they asked for a Christmas-themed game.

This thread is relatively old at this point but I’ve been tasked by my boss to find out if any of my CIR hulemdos teach at high schools so I’m rejuvenating the thread.
So hi hulemdos
Does anyone here teach HS? Or do eikaiwa for HS students? We’re looking to start the latter option and it’s been rough so far, we barely have it to the board hearing stage at school.

Hey folks! I am also going to try to revive this thread but we'll see what happens! My colleague and I were asked to give a 40-minute talk to about 320 high schoolers and 40-some adults about the way we perceive the place we're living as foreigners (the topic can actually be different, but that's what they chose as a placeholder). It's part of a larger assembly about people who have striven to accomplish things through hard work and about the effort needed to thrive in a challenging society, etc. Basically just instilling them with a sense of perspective, morals, etc to help high schoolers succeed in the 21st century (definitely not a talk I should give but am super curious to hear). I haven't had much time to focus on this assignment since I received it in July... and well.... it's next week hue I have figured out what I'm going to talk about but I'm worried it won't be super interesting or profound enough for this assembly. I'm basically going to talk about my experiences living in the States and as a high schooler (because relatable, amirite?) and then sort of digress into my experience moving around the country, vaguely believing that life in the city is where it's at but finding myself more fulfilled in rural areas...and so on and so forth. Anyways, I'm worried that I don't know my audience well enough because I've never experienced Japanese high school and I know nothing about what it is like to be a student here. I want to say "living in the countryside isn't so bad!" (partly because I'm guessing that's what they want us to talk about) but for all I know the students actually want to stay here but can't because there aren't any jobs... so I'm basically just rubbing their faces in the fact that they can't have what they want anyways? Maybe I am overthinking this. But has anyone had experiences with high school students and know anything about captivating them? I'm all ears
