I think sometimes I just use katakana リソース. Or maybe something involving 参考 or some derivative?

Yeah, they were using リソース a lot at the PA 研修 too

guys
guys
what do you think
i was asked for a translation of 「イノベーション都 京都」
"Capital Innovation Kyoto" was my suggestion and i like it because it works on so many levels!
capital = capital city capital = investment/funds capital capital = old way of saying "totally sick bruh"
so it's like, "sick innovation and also investment in the old capital city of kyoto bruh"
please someone agree with me

capitalinnovation.ca/you thief jk i know you're a genius. i googled because i thought "innovation capital" sounded better than "capital innovation" and was wondering how that would work out.

I'm not sure I would understand that it's supposed to mean Kyoto is the capital of innovation though...I think the order would have to be Innovation Capital Kyoto.

they went for my other suggestion of "Kyoto: The Innovation Capital" which is probably better because it doesn't sound dumb at first glance
i think i just enjoy thinking up these things and flexing my wordplay muscles

Ughh, they all have folk in them huh? Makes it a bit too wordy for my liking.

Yeah, but I feel like folk-culture is a pretty important specifying adjective

I mean, they're so similar it seems unnecessary, but I included it either way. It's a section on the Tsugaru Straits and a type of boat. I never knew a channel could be a cultural property...

New question! What's a not-clunky English translation for 災害医療協力施設? My understanding is that they're medical institutions/facilities that will offer aid in the case of a disaster.
So far I have Disaster Medicine Cooperative Institutions which sounds super awkward. >_< (But apparently 'disaster medicine' is a proper term)

Disaster relief/care facilities, maybe?
|
|
|
Post by snell_mouse on Jun 10, 2015 10:14:13 GMT 9
Hm that could work. But would that give the impression that they are primarily for disaster relief/care? I think they're just regular medical facilities normally, but will offer help in extreme circumstances.
This is to go on the legend for a 防災マップ, by the way.

That sounds like one of those distinctions that only matters in Japanese paperwork, haha. Like, I'd probably just write hospital, then an asterisk, and then explain that in case of emergencies it also offers medical care. I feel like even Japanese wouldn't know what those are without an explanation.
Emergency medical shelter? Emergency medical facility in case of disasters?

Post by snell_mouse on Jun 10, 2015 10:20:43 GMT 9
Well hospital is its own separate thing on the legend. (Maybe the 協力施設 are more like private clinics? I have no idea, haha, all I got was an Excel spreadsheet with a list of terms. -.-')
Is there a non-clunky way to say "facility that provides disaster medicine"? Actually maybe that's just the same thing as your first suggestion.

all I got was an Excel spreadsheet with a list of terms. -.-' hue so much 共感. I always just call up whoever sent me the materials and ask them directly. Anyway, the important part is people knowing they can go there in case of disasters, right?

Emergency medical care facility?

|
|
Post by snell_mouse on Jun 11, 2015 9:15:22 GMT 9
I think I'm going to just go with Disaster Medical Care Facility, since I can justify dropping the 協力 but feel like I should keep the 災害 part at least. Thanks for the input though!

遊里 and 遊女
The first is like a red-light district I guess but its olden timey with no lights right? I could use pleasure district but that always sounds gross, like you are stepping in questionable fluids everywhere.
Then you have 遊女 which I guess would be fine as prostitute but I again want that old timey vibe. How about Lady of the night? hue or streetwalker? Is whore still offensive? Some languages have de-offensified it.

So I've been asked to come up with a catchphrase for this 施設 we're trying to get registered as a World Heritage. The Japanese is 「世界への約束 韮山反射炉を未来へ」which is supposed to be like...we're promising the world that we will maintain the Nirayama Reverberatory Furnaces for future generations? Idk thinking of a catchy slogan is hard, especially with a long name like "Nirayama Reverberatory Furnaces" >< any suggestions would be much appreciated!

Guys, how do you approach romaji words stylistically when it can't be avoided because there is no good translation for it?
I'm native checking an ad for a Love knowledge company who makes KONPEITOU.
It says 「KONPEITOU produced by Aiya」 and since it's their product and there's no good english word for KONPEITOU, I'm stuck with deciding how leave it as romaji as stylistically as possible, because as we all know, KONPEITOU it stupid

Apparently my 課 is in charge of PRing my city's 45th anniversary event coming up and wants a certain phrase translated into YEIGO.
How should 「もっともっと○○市」be translated? hue. It's so silly-sounding that idk how to go about it without it sounding unnatural ;__;
