So far I'm only told that I will be interpreting (will be my first time interpreting). Not sure if this is the case for other CIRs as well, I'm not the prefecture CIR (nowhere near) and have been offered to attend Travel Mart (said yes right away, I have nothing to do in my office) with two Japanese from the prefecture (exchanged meishi but nothing more than that). I know it's still early but would like to hear some experience that people have to share.
Someone mentioned that we'll be out by 6pm but are we required to attend the Welcome Party and Networking reception that goes on till 8pm?

Here you go: cirhomepage.boards.net/post/140928/threadI won't be there because I'm leaving, but my successor will be there! Also I don't think the welcoming party and networking reception is mandatory....I've certainly never been.

Hi, I'll be going this year too! I think a good amount of CIRs get sent along as interpreters, so it's like a very small Mid-Year Chaos. I went last year and met up with mumbles and a few other people for tokyo bants a saitama anime go party afterwards.
It was my first time interpreting at the time, and I think it's a great event to get your feet wet at! All of the discussion is very simple and straightforward, no curve-balls or weird vocab, so you should have no issues so long as you read through a few tourism pamphlets about your area before heading out. It's mostly things like "have you heard of x town? we've got fun things a, b, and c to do. We are y hours from Tokyo and z hours from Osaka. Pls visiting us yolosik." It's also great that you'll be interpreting in front of max 4 people, so no worries if you stutter or get a bit tongue tied!

Ooh I’m apparently supposed to be interpreting for the MICE event too! Thanks for the detailed info @cantamint, glad to know it’s pretty easy subject matter. Mini CIR meetup you guys?

I'm here to revive this thread! Is anyone going to this this year? I suggested it to our (new) TANTO of inbound but he and I are both a little lost as we've never been before and we couldn't make it to the prefectural briefing due to weather. Our junbi is super last-minute but we are planning on bringing guidebooks from our town and maybe having a video playing. What do people usually bring for decorations for the booth? What are the tips of the seasoned-attendees?

So...I'm not going but some prefectural people are (to promote my city/area). They asked me for English pamphlets and for me to make a simple English PR SHIRYOU. We gave them the English pamphlets but I don't know how to write the PR thing because the information I'd want to write is pretty much all in the pamphlet anyways. I asked them for more clarification of what they had in mind and they just replied sending me the list of tourism companies who will attend and said "Use this for reference! Sorry this reply is way too KANTAN but I have no time to explain!". So...idk. It'd be nice if they gave me ideas of what they had in mine, or a template (or something to just translate into English?) since they're the ones who will be going and doing the explanation, not me... They said they wanted it by today but I'm still kind of stumped. I don't even know if it's something they want to use for themselves or to hand out so idk if I should write it like a list or try to make it visually appealing.
