I looked to see if there were past threads about this but I didn't see one and I also didn't remember being asked about this last year but
I got info today for some Ideas Exchange thing for CIRs organised by CLAIR that'll take place in Tokyo? 21st February 2019 10:30 - 16:30
They only want 10 people, it also seems that costs will be covered by CLAIR or the CO?
I'm not sure if I could go as it might be a bit close to something else I might have to do but I just wondered if anyone else had got the info about it as well?

I also got the info for this but I don't think I'll be going, mostly cause I would have to go and come back in one day. As my coworker explained, it only happens every 2 years since it rotates between ALTs and CIRs. For example cause the CIR ikenkoukan thing is this year, next year would be the ALT ikenkoukan. Maybe that'll help your decision-

Yeah, I feel like my CO would try to make me do that as well, and Tokyo's pretty far from me (and you, I see)
I don't really know what I could contribute to it in particular and am not sure if I can be bothered, so I'll probably give it a miss ^^;;

Tbh same. I feel like this would be a great forum for CIRs that are having serious problems. Just like burst into CLAIR and demand change

I also got a basic, "hey, this exists", but I would have to cover the costs myself, so won't be doing it. Sounds vaguely interesting, though.

Well I'm apparently late on getting this info haha. It sounds interesting, and I would like to go, but I'm not sure I would be the best pick if the limit is 10 people... I definitely know there are people on these boards who should be first in line to demand change

From what I can tell, they’ll take care of travel and accommodation fees. It says it on their 開催及び募集通知(任団あて) document: 8. 参加者の旅費等 当協会の規定に基づき、旅費・宿泊費は当協会が負担いたします。

I'm pretty sure it's about structural issues with the JET program/working within local governments and ideas for improvements. I did one with other posters here a few years back. I remember it being a pretty high-powered group of CIRs with lots of interesting experiences and situations. The CIR directory/database was one of the things which came out of our year, as for example we wanted to connect with people who used social media for promotion but had no way of knowing who did what where.
I also think they paid my travel expenses.

I meant that as CIRs they are doing innovative projects, have leadership roles in their workplace, are seen as leaders within their region, have good ideas for improving the CIR experience, etc. Don't sell yourself short- you've been around a while and are a leader on this board : ) I went as I thought we needed better connections between CIRs working on tourism at the municipal level and could learn from each other, there should be some kind of midcareer CIR position to attract people with lots of work experience and special skills to help overcome local problems, and a few other things I can't remember anymore. Here's the old thread: cirhomepage.boards.net/thread/364/27-cir-ver

I just got the information about the 意見交換会 too. Seems kind of silly to go all the way to Tokyo for just one day......

Yes, but then, that's the Friday before a long weekend, so if your CO is nice, you can go for work and then enjoy the city for 3 days! My CO is usually pretty cool about stuff like that, so a trip to Tokyo is tempting. I just don't feel like I would have much to contribute to the conversation.

Same here. I also agree with spaceymagey because I feel like it could be a good chance for people who have trouble with their COs (i.e. being overworked, not enough work, unfair circumstances etc.) to explain that to CLAIR. Maybe then CLAIR could think/brainstorm of more ways to support CIRs or make the program more balanced? Or PAs? Hmm....

Definitely, bring your problems and also ideas for fixing them! CLAIR could do much more to disseminate best practices and get CIRs out of the lowest common denominator "internationalization" box. There are CIRs doing some great work across Japan, and localities love to copy from one another. How can we raise the bar for what a CIR can be and solve the underuse/unfair workplace issues?
