Hey everyone, Very quick question - I have been asked to do a presentation on cultural diversity to people who got promoted to the shunin rank this year (I work in the section of multicultural affairs). Has anyone here shown the following sketch (an oldie from 7 years ago) to coworkers / shimin and / or Japanese hulemdos, and how did they react to it? We did an hour of TABUMKA KYOSEI for the new employees 2 day long orientation and one year we did this. its been a few years but iirc their reactions were... lackluster. you could blame it on it being 3 pm on day 2 of their orientation. you could blame it on the japanese school system not encouraging them to state their opinions in front of people. or you could blame it on them actually not seeing it.
We told them that it had gotten a lot of attention from the international community as a 日本に住む外国人のあるある and asked them to think about why as they watched it. afterwards we asked questions like The Japanese Man Yuta channel does in his reaction video iirc. stuff like, what do you think was going on. why do you think it garnered such attention etc.
be prepared to drag it out of them and or explain it very explicitly and plainly. then keep your main message in mind and finish off with that. i think we said something like "there are lots of different kinds of people in japan. dont make assumptions and be open minded"
good luck!

This is slightly tangential, but I found that the video below elaborated on a few of the concepts in the "But we're speaking Japanese! 日本語喋ってるんだけど" . I think the latter is more appealing to international audiences, while the framing here might be easier to elaborate for a Japanese audience. It could be a helpful reference? www.youtube.com/watch?v=D50j5_Bcb50
