I finally convinced my soup & kacho so that I can help local restaurants, hotels, and ryokan with non-japanese customers, but with COVID its still iffy to go in-person and do presentations, seminars, and what not.
Soooo... for starters I'm making English posters/signs they can use for free to accomodate English Speaking customers but I'm slowly running out of ideas.. (Menus are in the process of being translated as well.)
Things I've made so far is: COVID Related signs, Credit Card Accepted sign, Close Lid When Flushing sign, Use Slippers From Here sign. Working on: How to Onsen sign, Conversation Starting Phrase sign..
Signs you would have wished you saw, funny signs, must have signs, ANY idea would be appreciated!!

Not necessarily a sign, but maybe something explaining the way to eat certain foods? I remember a hulemdo who was doing something similar for a soba restaurant where the owner's complaint was foreigners who would pour the liquid over the bamboo container with the soba, causing a mess, rather than dipping the soba in the liquid

Oh, if there are any local taxes that are applicable to your area, and which are automatically added to the price of a hotel room...add those.
Ex. Local tax X is included in the bill.

For sure soba and okonomiyaki places might need a how-to guide!
Allergies are indeed a must, this is def going into my list of to-dos, along with the tax. Although for the tax, I might include this in the menu.

My hulemdo used to work for an inbound tourism company, and one service her company provided was support for clients who can't speak English but have English speaking customers.
Ex: client was a flowershop. None of the staff can speak English but they wanted options for dealing with English speaking customers.
Her company created this little chart the flowershop staff could hold; it had two columns, one for Japanese and one with the corresponding English phrases. The staff could point at the questions they wanted to ask and the customer could point back.
I bet that kind of thing would be useful for various restaurants, etc. in your area too.

point and talk things can be super helpful
in general, labeling of things? if there is a japanese label, an english one should be considered
the thermostat and the tv remote for example!

Thanks Sayjay and Miscreative! I'm slowly working on making a map people can point to for conversations!
Labels are a good point! I might not be able to make an all-mighty but, possibly make a translation list so that shop owners can use to make lables themselves.
