would especially love input from former CIRs or people who have worked outside of JET I feel like I know the answer to my question but gonna ask anyway but how do you feel about studying Japanese at your desk during work hours? I kinda wish I could still use my free time to do that (I did as an ALT aaaall the time). But now that I work as a direct hire CIR (and in my first year here still), I'm worried that it'll come across as me being lazy/inappropriate. I def don't want to get scolded by my 輔佐 for it either Like, if it were any regular office job in the States, I wouldn't be able to spend time at work studying Japanese, obviously. So I feel like the answer is no, you shouldn't. But kinda want to hear others' opinions too xD i didn't do it all the time, but my office didn't see any problem with it, especially when i was studying for jlpt. i didn't ask though, i just did it quietly and even asked my neighbour questions because we have downtime together. i know what you mean about how it feels wrong xD it's technically "for work" because you're improving skills for translation/interpreting, and now that i think about it, i wrote that down for my 報告 when we had wfh

Then it's 研修 or something right? which somehow feels more valid

Then it's 研修 or something right? which somehow feels more valid we just had orientation for our new CIRs and in the "expectations for CIRs" section it mentioned that, during times when you have less work, you can "gain knowledge necessary for your job/broaden your understanding of japanese through studying" or something like that (this may differ depending on COs of course)
