Hello all
My supe and I are working to improve our support of foreign residents with regards to natural disasters, and we were hoping to get some inspo from my dearly honored colleagues of the illustrious CHIRP
So does anyone's CO have them do stuff in the event of a disaster? also GYAKNI, is there stuff your CO does to help foreign residents that doesn't involve you?

i think hearing from 経験者 CIR is more useful than me (who hasn't experienced a natural disaster here *touchwood*), but my office created a plan to set up something called 多言語支援センター as soon as a large natural disaster happens. it becomes the 拠点 that supports the disaster prevention dept and emergency services via providing translations and other stuff. i only know my role, which is being the translation/interpreting team..
we're supposed to report to the city hall as soon as it's safe to move and set up the room. i live the closest so it's probably me who will arrives first and has gotta get it going until the real 公務員 come in lmfao

The one thing I'm involved in is training Japanese people that can volunteer at shelters and stuff and would know how to handle foreigners. The one this weekend mentions the 3 hurdles foreigners have when dealing with disasters, so that might help? It's language/cultural barriers, the experience barrier (not knowing what to do, not knowing what happens at shelters, fear of being regarded with prejudice) and the policy barrier (not knowing about stuff like forms to fill out)
I must admit that, as a foreigner living in Japan, I've never received any type of info about disaster preparedness, though, so I'm not sure who takes care of that or what they do XD

Thanks! That's actually really helpful. I'm also trying to see what it's feasible for me to do and what needs to be taken care of by other organizations and all that so it's good to see :)
