For three years now I've conducted a survey of JET alumni in my prefecture a year after they left the program, as a kind of "where are they now" and "looking back on what leaving JET was like."
I was thinking it'd be cool to do a survey of 全国 CIR alumni along the same lines. It would be hard to track people down but we could make a google survey and share it on Facebook and ask people to share it with their predecessors. I think all of us know at least a few alumni at this point. The survey would obviously be bilingual E-J and any other languages you guys speak and can translate it into. Since it's kind of close to August now and would take some time to get the survey to alumni, we could specify people who left in 2015 or before and keep it open longer.
These are the questions I asked, we could modify them to make them more specific:
1.What was your position? Maybe something about 県 vs. 市 vs. 交流会?
2. Where was your (main) placement? (list of prefs/cities)
3. Where are you living now? (Japan, home country (country options), other country)
4. What are you doing for work or school? (ex. grad school studying X, working in X field)
5. How did you find the job/program/school you’re at now?
6. What did you do during your JET time to further your career?
7. What was good about leaving the JET program?
8. What was difficult about leaving the JET program?
9. What are you glad you did in your preparations to leave the program?
10. What do you wish you had done differently in your preparations to leave?
11. If you are outside of Japan: did you experience re-entry shock (reverse culture shock)? If you are in Japan: how did you emotionally adapt to a new location and workplace in Japan?
12. What advice do you have for JETs leaving the program this year?
What do you guys think?
