Hi CIRHP, Are you thinking of working at a tech company after JET? If you are, then definitely check out Mercari. It's a rapidly growing company - it's one of the very few Japanese startups to join the unicorn club (companies with a pre-IPO valuation over $1 billion). After working here for a month, I wholeheartedly recommend you consider this as your post JET option: - hulemdoly work environment, lots of smart and talented people
- Modern work standards - say goodbye to fax machines, kairan, and landline phones (also we only have 2 printers in the whole office)
- Proactively encouraging workplace diversity and inclusion
- Minimal zangyo
- Great benefits (flex time is amazing)
- Nice office location
- Free laptop and phone
- Etc.
We're hiring aggressively right now, so don't miss out on this opportunity. The position will be with the Global Operations Team at Mercari HQ in Roppongi. More info here: mercan.mercari.com/entry/introducing-got▼Job Description ・Translation of documents to aid Mercari's global expansion, mainly from Japanese into English ・Translation of mobile app specifications and other internal documents (English ↔ Japanese) ・Interpreting at meetings (English ↔ Japanese) ・Planning and coordination of intercultural seminars, meetup events, etc. ・Promotion of Mercari’s global hiring efforts ・Support for international members in Mercari’s Tokyo office ・Various other internationalization projects If you're interested, shoot me a PM or Line! I'll be happy to answer any questions Also, let me know if you're in the Kanto area and would like to meet up. I can arrange free dinners in Roppongi with interested candidates! ご参考までに! <-- Application for the position here + more info available.

Don't you have to have a lot of tech knowledge in addition to honyak/tuuyak skills?

Don't you have to have a lot of tech knowledge in addition to honyak/tuuyak skills? It's definitely a plus, but I learned most of what I know about tech after I joined. Honyak and/or tuuyak skills are definitely a plus, but also there's new opportunities in global hiring (even planning, creating a better onboarding process, etc.), and also if you're interested in teaching, that's an option too. We're in charge of providing training for language, intercultural communication, diversity and inclusion, etc. for our employees. It's a pretty cool team with a lot of opportunities. If anyone is interested to know more, I can set up a dinner & info session with my manager. You get a free meal, I get a free meal... it's win-win hue. The only catch is, you'll have to visit us in Roppongi.
