With COVID-19 and all, there's been an increase in webinars, online conferences/trainings and the like. Maybe if there are webinars related to inbound tourism or international exchange (i.e. directed at 自治体) we could share the information here and see if our offices would let us participate/watch. I assume the biggest barrier would be the outdated technology in most of our offices, though... |

I just saw this webinar about tourism 回覧'd, which is being run by the 観光庁 and the US embassy. It looks interesting, and I'd like to watch a video conference for 1.5 hrs during to break up the monotony of the day but unfortunately it's already full capacity. I think personally my office wouldn't mind if I participated in something like this, but I'm not sure how it would work out technology wise. With my work computer we're not allowed to download programs (like zoom or teams) and there's no webcam (*if that was required). There's also no wifi here which would make using my own phone or laptop tricky as well. And there's no quiet place to go unless I specifically reserved a meeting room for it. I suppose I could sit in our storage closet or something, but... |

On the 12th and 13th of September, the Japan Association of Translators is doing a two-days online symposium called Online Project 2020 about various topics involving translation and interpreting. It's all free for JAT members, but non-members can purchase access for 1,000 yen per session. |

It's all free for JAT members, but non-members can purchase access for 1,000 yen per session. I'd attend but I feel like I feel like I'd be more consumed by feelings of inferiority as I'm not an actual professional hue. Like, if this is how smart you have to be to be a translator, I might not be cut out for the work...  but aimed at myself hue |

Don't beat yourself up about it; I've watched some of the videos from previous symposia that JAT made available on their website for members, and many of them just offer really good, useful practical advice, as well as interesting anecdotes. I think it's definitely worth checking out :)

サイマル・アカデミー (which seems to be a school for people to learn how to become pro interpreters/translators in Tokyo) is advertizing a free online seminar you can sign up for, which allows you to watch some Youtube videos from experienced peeps
I enjoyed the videos myself and learned a bit more about what to expect from being an interpreter. It's free to sign up for and watch the videos, but they're only available until 3/21, so in case anyone else is interested, I found the sign-up form on their Facebook page. The event is called 通翻EXPO 2023春
