Hey everyone.
I got the news today that I failed my embassy interview for the MEXT postgrad scholarship. I knew I was nervous during the interview and a bit rambly (and I don't think I took advantage of the Japanese speaking section enough) but I can't get any feedback anyway.
I was looking at MAs in international relations and global studies, as I was hoping to do research into minority populations in Japan in short. I had thought of applying for the CIR role if I failed the MEXT application because I felt like it correlated in part to my research interests. Also during my undergrad I was a commit member for our Japanese Society and enjoyed the event planning side of that role.
Anyway, I'm still pretty down about the news but I had also accepted this was a possibility. I'm feeling pretty knocked confidence wise and am wondering if I even have a shot at the CIR role. I passed N2 in 2017 before my year abroad, studied in Japan for a year taking all Japanese classes (everything was around N2 level I'd say) and just missed getting N1 at the end of that year so summer 2019 (I was 2 marks off the vocab section and hadn't really studied enough for it because I was focusing on my research project at the time). I just graduated in Japanese Studies this year and am currently jobhunting (to no avail).
I'd say my Japanese level is N2 but I've lost some confidence in my abilities. Earlier this year I applied for a Japanese speaking marketing role and had 2 interviews but they went with someone who had N1. I'm usually comfortable speaking but I don't know if having multiple failed interviews is just making me feel like I'm not at the level I should be.
I say all this to say, given my results for MEXT and current language ability, do I even have a reasonable chance at JET?
