Hi everyone! I'm a prospective CIR waiting for the results (hopefully 2 weeks left? hue)
In order to distract myself from this painful time, I would like to ask what your experiences have been like with accommodation.
- Did you inherit it from your predecessor? - How much do you pay? - Is it subsidied at all? - How big is it? - Any other comments?
Thank you!

- I did inherit mine, and it's been my position's house for a while - 55,000 yen - I get a 20,000 subsidy for every month, which is paid ever 3 months - I have a kitchen/dining room, bathroom with sink room, toilet room, and two tatami rooms; it,s pretty big for one person! - I also inherited a bunch of stuff, which is both a blessing and a curse; it's great because I didn't need to buy anything really, but it sucks when you have to get rid of things, or when some are kind of gross

Thank you for your reply. That sounds super nice. I am just hoping I wouldn't get put in a ワンルーム hue. I actually put that place with the Lake and NOTHING ELSE down as one of my preferences!

Hi! fingers crossed for you! - yep, inherited. and it's been in continuous use for,,, a while so it's showing it's age haha - I pay about 2万 - I get a 2万 subsidy, so the real rent is a little over 4万 - I think it' qualifies as a 2DK? definitely not bad (A tatami room for my bedroom, a room with (terrible) flooring, a kitchen, and then the bath/toilet/laundry) - regardless of what you get, if it's not a fit for you it's absolutely doable to move. I know a lot of people who have, though sometimes they have to push against their CO to get it done.

Thank you! I hope you get your results soon! - I was a first time CIR, so I did not inherit anything. My CO had an open 職員 apartment that was big enough for my family. They provided all of our appliances and some basic items to get started and we bought the rest. - 1万 a month. I am very inaka, it's an old building, and since it's employee housing it's cheap. - No additional subsidies. - 3LK - While inheriting can be nice, I was actually glad that we started from scratch and could pick up things as we needed and to fit our lifestyle. My CO was very accommodating in what they provided, for example they got us a full sized fridge since I brought my family. I was also glad that most of the appliances like the washing machine, was new.

First time as a CIR:
- 5万 a month. 2LDK - No subsidies. - Nothing inherited.
2nd time:
- 7.5万 a month. 3LDK (for a growing family). - Still no subsidy. - Still nothing inherited.
So yeah, def ESID

Thank you! hi i only moved in 6 months ago but i have some experiences -didn't inherit bc my pred stayed in his apartment and still works in the area, but our JET coordinator found a place for me near work that was fully furnished (except a microwave i got from my pred plus an IH hot plate i bought myself) -i'm in a city so 4万 and another 5000ish for utilities. this is on the cheap side -i get a 4万 subsidy every three months -it's a 8畳室 one room (not tatami), which is why my pred picked another building -my priority was having furniture, not space--the bigger places i could've picked didn't even have beds/washing machines/fridges and i wasn't going to spend my first week running around getting furniture on top of settling into work -also im really glad they provided me w a semi-double bed so even though the room feels a bit small bc of it i have more room to stretch out and be lazy. there's still enough room for a chair and kotatsu and a vanity i got from a leavng ALT so i have no complaints -smaller room = heats up faster in winter IJOU

I moved into the apartment my pred (and all the CIRs before him) had been living in, rented in my City's name. My office helpe arrange for me to move a year in, and my successor inherited that apartment. The two apartments were more or less the same size/rent:
-2万 of the rent was subsidized, and the rest (a little over 2万) was taken out of my paycheck each month. -2DK (one tatami room, one western style room, and a kitchen/dining situation that was large enough for a table) -Apartment was fully furnished with stuff provided by my office/acquired by preds over the years.
I replaced the sofa and space heater myself, but then a year in I found out my office actually had a budget to buy me stuff so they took me to the home store and I got some new curtains/a storage cabinet thing for my living room.
Since I stayed in Japan after leaving, I took the space heater with me and got a little money from my pred for the sofa I left behind. My pred was only around for a year and hadn't bought much so he didn't charge me for anything.

Thank you! i have since moved to live with my spouse so this no longer applies to me but
-i did, as did my pred. not sure how far back but our apartments are rented in the mayor's name so the apartment is inherited as long as it works -we get a subsidy of 1/4th our rent up to 15,000 yen. i paid 45,000 yen post subsidy. i have 3 other cirs, one paid 50,000. another paid 33,000 iirc -mine was a 2 room with a galley kitchen and unit bath. plenty big enough for 1 person but tight with 2 (and technically not allowed). the 50,000 yen apartment was 2 rooms and a dining kitchen with separate toilet and bathroom (it was originally chosen for a 3 person family), the 33,000 was a one room with a kitchenette (one burner, small sink, no counters) and a unit bath.
-i was left with some stuff (a fully furnished kitchen with silverware and bowls) and my office provided basics like a new bed, tv, fridge, washing machine, microwave and rice cooker. however, they have changed their stance and will provide NOTHING new. if there is something to inherit, great, but things are slowly getting thrown away as they become outdated or not needed. because i moved i am afraid my successor will start with nothing (they didnt fucking provide beds for our most recent CIRs??) and i will either stand against it or take them as long as they arrive before i leave (which is very likely)
varied, even within the same office so ymmv. good luck

only arrived a few months ago but leggooo
No pred (she left before covid blew up and there was a looooong gap before I arrived), but the same apartment block. I think this is where most of the CIRs here end up. I pay 29,500 yen which is just over half of the rent (the kencho pay the rest). That includes water, internet, a bicycle parking space (which I don’t use hue) and maintenance costs but doesn’t include my electricity bill I also got a bed, futon set, kotatsu, washing machine and fridge given to me from work It’s a 1K but the kitchen is quite big for 1K standards I’d honestly call it a 1DK. The building was renovated in recent years so it’s in good condition, has smart lights and no tatami yayyyy. It’s also really central and I don’t drive or anything so it’s really convenient!! The main thing I love about it is that you need an IC card to enter the building, so while its annoying to have to go down to the main entrance to collect packages I haven't had to deal with any creepers or the NHK man (yet)
