For all current and past CIRs: how often do you participate in drinking sessions after work and is this common for yall?

With Corona, almost never Before Corona, we would go to restaurants about 2-3 times a year. Some people went to 2jikai, but a lot of my colleagues either live far away or have families, so most of them just went home

Similar to above, not many during corona
My shima did have one こっそり忘年会 and some people have gone for dinner and a few drinks in restaurants occasionally but yeah not many overall

"Normal" parties aside, a workplace might then decide to have shared bento lunch days every other month or so to compensate for not being able to do the parties.
I have seen that.

I'm in the Inaka so we had a few small ones even during the pandemic. 歓迎会、忘年会. Outside of that, since my hours end a lot earlier compared to everyone in the office, it's kinda hard for them to be like "hey, you wanna go for a quick drink?" kinda thing.

I'm on the opposite end where even though I'm in the inaka, my office is really conservative about having gatherings during corona
pre-pandemic, they apparently would hold welcome parties for the new jets

My office hasn't had any nomikais since the bonenkai in 2019.
In normal times, I would say there were maybe 4-5 a year with the bonenkai, a few kangei/soubetsukai for different groups/people coming and going at different times of the year, and irregular ones after events or "let's ward off the heat" summer gentei-nomikai.

came last year w covid so most of the parties I’ve had are small (only the CIRs), so I’ve never gotten to experience a full-on party w my coworkers at all. we are planning a kangeikai in may at least
however, for my successor’s farewell, end of the year, and beginning of the year, we all got very fancy bentos which were nice…
until I found out there’s a 2500 yen per month fee that everyone has to pay for those :’)

Before Covid my office had nomikais every month (sometimes once a week) with late night 3jikai at snack bars... But then covid happened (I left summer 2021). We still had a couple rare ones after that but it depended on local Covid cases.

Just chiming in to say how much I miss nomikai Prior to COVID when I was working as an ALT, we would have like 4 or 5 a year maybe. They were so much fun! After switching to CIR in April, we did have a 歓迎会 for the division, so that was nice. First nomikai in 2 years for me!
