I LYUUGAKUd in Matsue from 2010 to 2011, and met the Izumo-shi CIR who was there at the time. He was a super nice guy from Ireland and was actually the main KIKKAKE for me learning about the CIR position and wanting to pursue it : D

When I traveled there in the spring, there were only 2 trains an hour on the main line, but one was express (more expensive)...

I know some of the CIRs that work on the islands too.

I'm really planning on getting a licence as early as possible to drive and explore everything I can HELLO in Izumo, it is possible to get by without a car, but having one makes life much easier so I do osusume. there are lots of neat little destinations around the prefecture that you need a car to get to. read up on the kojiki and ancient Japanese myths (the kunibiki myth, the white hare of inaba, yamata no orochi, etc etc) to get the most out of local culture! learn a few words in portuguese (even just "I don't speak portuguese" so you can say it if someone mistakes you for brazilian) for fun and to use at the delicious brazilian restaurants around the city ummm...I'll DM you more heheheh

Yeah, from what I remember of living in Island Root, living there comfortably doesn't absolutely necessitate having a car like it does here in Okinawa, but it certainly makes it more enjoyable.
I'd say definitely get a car, but take your time finding a good deal and a car you like.

It seems like arrival dates are pretty much all decided now? think so! Seems like some ALTs are still waiting on specific placement deets but I think all of the consulates have departure dates now itshappening.gif

My pred contacted me a few weeks ago saying that they broke contract before they finished their first year because things didn't go too well with them and the CO. I don't want to ask for details but I'm also wondering what I should expect hue

I don't want to ask for details but I'm also wondering what I should expect hue I think it's okay to hear what they have to say, but don't let it overly color your experience before you get there. You never know if the problem people changed back in April, or if it was more like two personalities that just happened to clash rather than anything else.
