This is somewhat related to interpreting and translating so Ill put it here cuz idk where else
I would like to get more involved in supporting foreigners. So far I have only done 2 madoguti2yaks and 2 2yaks at a daycare.
Generally when people come to the madoguti, they have someone who can speak Japanese with them so I am not really needed there. Can I ask what you guys are doing to help people? What kind of issues do you find people have most? (for us its tax and childcare but I wonder if there is anything we are missing).
Im thinking of making a survey and giving it to my hulemdos, etc.

In my case, most people come without help when they go to the madoguchi; some people know about my office and just come here directly, while others struggle on their own until that division's staff calls and asks me to come help. I don't think we advertize about having a multi-lingual support desk nearly as much as we should though, as there are tons of people who have no idea that I'm here to help them
The most common issues I help with are: - basic procedures related to daily life (in the 市民課, so getting 住民票, My Number Card stuff, registering births/marriages, etc.) - help talking with Pension, Health Insurance, and Tax divisions, especially when the 本人 is behind on payments and needs to work out a revised payment plan - loan repayment / job hunting related consultations that happen down in the 福祉課 - applying for city / prefectural housing
but I can get called to any madoguchi in all of city hall and help, so I've done tons of different cases in various divisions
I think a big issue is that nobody knows how to fill out the forms; if they had a how to fill in XYZ paper at the madoguchi, they could do at least some basic stuff on their own.
And also people just don't know what kinds of procedures need done at City Hall and when; we'll get people who moved like a year ago, who never updated their address with immigration, or who didn't know about the 転入・転出届, stuff like that.
I also get tons of requests for medical interpreting services, but there aren't really any good, viable options in this area, which really sucks. People sometimes ask me to do translations for them for personal things but I'm also not allowed to accept those kinds of requests (from individuals) so I have to have a list of other professional 翻訳会社 I can give them instead

Ditto! Aside from that, I also translate forms and sometimes I have to make the data from scratch coz there are times they do not have it =_=
I get sent to other municipal branches as needed.
So the thing I did for this year is have the point to your language chart (which I based on our city's foreign population) at service counters so staff no longer have to guess which language they need for intepretation. Coz I got tired of hearing, I think it is English lmao even though it is kinda far from it .
Since we have IG and FB, we regualrly post reminders that we offer free interpretation services at the city hall and we also have video call interpretation service to cover other languages.
