I've been asked to go to my city's 子供センター Halloween party. There will be about 20 kids, around 1st-3rd grade.
They've asked me to read a picture book to them (I assume in Japanese??? I've never done this before, I don't think I'll be any good at it...) and come up with some games.
Anyone have any ideas for Halloween-y games? Or ideas for books?

Japan has that game where you close your eyes and try to put eyes/ears/nose/mouth onto a face, right? (Can't remember what it's called, sorry, but I did it at an elementary school once.) Maybe you could do that with jack-o-lanterns? Like make orange pumpkin backgrounds and cut out a bunch of black triangle eyes/noses/mouths? Would take a bit of preparation but I think they would enjoy it.
Or pin-the-face-on-the-jack-o-lantern (instead of a donkey)?
Or you could role-play trick or treating somehow, maybe to music or something?
(This is just what's off the top of my head, I'm sure you can also find Halloween games online or maybe ask an ALT hulemdo what they have done)

Fukuwarai? Yeah, that would be good. I've done Halloween games before, but always in the context of also teaching English. Since this is more of a party I'd like to just do more straight games. I'll look around some of the websites too.

I'm doing a Halloween event too. We're going to make people do a mummy race and dance to Thriller. And maybe face-painting, plus jack-o-lantern related paper crafts. All the classics. I might also get them to pick a "Trick" or "Treat" card, and give them either incredibly sour or normal candy accordingly. Also we're going to give out prizes for the best costumes. I have to be Guy Fawkes. I wanted to do apple bobbing, but apparently it's too messy, expensive and unhygienic. Fair enough, I suppose. For a separate event I have to read a Halloween picture book in English and Japanese (I translated it into Japanese myself). It's called "Boo, Who?" Here's a link: www.amazon.co.jp/Boo-Who-skoopy-Lift-The-Flap-Book/dp/059005905XIf you want the translation I did, just let me know!

I'm planning to do the thing where you get boxes and put weird things in there like cold pasta or peeled grapes and tell the kids it's eyeballs/guts, etc. I'm a first year so this is my first time doing an event so we'll see how it goes ^-^;
So far most people RSVP-ing are parents with very young kids (like 2-3) because I only visit preschools so that's where I've been able to advertise my event. I'm not too experienced with small kids so any advice for more Halloween activities would be very welcome!
