Since I'm not seeing any Valentines Day event themed threads in here, I'm gonna treat this thread like a general thread and ask for suggestions in here. I have a 世界のバレンタイン event at a 児童センター on the 12th during which I need to come up with and do a バレンタインに関連する遊び. It needs to be for about 30 mins. What kinds of Valentines related 遊び can you guys think of that would take up 30 mins? All I remember doing during valentines as a kid was writing valentines cards for hulemdos, but 1) that's not really an 遊び and 2) it creates the possibility that some kids don't get any from anyone. I'm racking my brain here y'all. HERUPU MIIIII OOOH I did a Valentines Day event for kids last year! I was told the target age would be 小3-小6, so prepared accordingly...but it was mostly kindergartens that ended up coming orz that aside, I did a general America bunka shokai and then added information about Valentines Day in the US -- exchanging gifts among hulemdos, giving flowers/stuffed animals/jewelry and not just chocolate, some of the symbols and phrases used, things like conversation hearts, and "galentines." I think I killed around 20 minutes on that but it could have been shorter. then I had games/activities, which were not necessarily valentines-related except for the way I themed them hue. 1. I had the kids race from one end of the room to the other while balancing Hershey's Kisses on plastic spoons, like an egg race but less messy. 2. I divided them into small groups and did Pictionary with Valentines words like "present" "date" "chocolate" etc. 3. I also prepared a bunch of paper hearts of different colors, then cut in half with a jagged line and wrote the same number on both halves for easy matching, and shuffled up the halves and passed them out at random. The kids had to find the person holding the other half of their heart in order to form pairs. 4. Then, I had them make cards and exchange them with the partner they matched with. Hope this gives you some ideas...I also had a hard time planning the event but I think it ended up well enough! Okay, awesome. Thank you so much! I'm gonna have lots of stuff to pull out of my bag prepared, hue. For number 3, what do the pairs do after they've found each other? Is it just like, lets see who can do it fastest kinda deal?

Shimanchu 2024 Yeah, just a race, and as a game-kind-of-activity used to make pairs! If you want to give them a task to complete nce they've found each other maybe they could like, have them ask about favorite colors or something to use when making cards..?

This is still a long way off but I was asked to come up with some more ideas for a lecture I'd be doing down the line. This would be my first lecture so it's a little bit of jiko shoukai and also just talking about my state, where I'm from, family and stuff. The tantou was thinking that the event might be a bit more interesting if it was something a bit more than talking and Q&A. Only ideas I have so far are incorporating videos into the presentation (on top of lots of shashin). Ideally they'd be videos that display different areas around my home state.
Also maybe a bit of a trivia game at some point? (maybe a few small prizes?). Not entirely sure how I'd set a game like that up. I know there is some budget set aside for these lectures, but I'd have to ask about amounts/allowable expenses

Any ideas for a kids event that involves the outdoors and ☆kokusai kolyu☆?
I'm supposed to pitch some ideas for the next nendo, and one of the projects I tanto for is the 青少年育成部会, which is a group of volunteers who put on international events for elementary school through junior high school kids
in previous アンケート from last year, kids repeatedly wrote that they would be interested in an event that involved nature or being outside. I'm keen to do that and if I have some ideas, my group is pretty easy going and will probably be cool with it
sometimes we have the local ALTs join for kolyu events, but that just makes me picture 1 ALT x 1 or 2 kids walking and maybe talking as we walk around a lake or something. Which isn't necessarily bad, but it's nice if the kids can learn something a bit deeper / doesn't have to focus on English specifically or anything like that
past events included us taking a field trip to The Ministry of Foreign Affairs, a cookie making class with a local chef from France, and a quiz competition where ALTs presented true/false questions about their home countries for the kids to guess about

Hold a 4th of July picnic and talk about the custom of holding BBQs and how they differ from Japanese BBQs. You could hold an event to teach a few different age-appropriate playground games (red light green light, duck duck goose, red rover, etc).

Springjay is there like an outdoorsy, somewhat commercial farm in your area? how about a field trip there? i once participated in an "english camp" held at such a place and they invited some english speakers to make japanese curry camp-style together with the kids in english. they even let us kindle the fire which was a first for me xD

Sorry for posting in here again, one last post for a while here.
I compiled a list of different craft workshops I want to lead this year after this month’s Easter event, and there is one I really would love to do, but I am curious if fellow Americans (both current and former CIRs) believe this might be entering touchy territory though.
For context, I want to make a paper lei workshop for school students to attend sometime this summer. There are two reasons I am confident this workshop could benefit this town’s understanding of Hawaii.
1. My town’s high school has a sister high school in Honolulu, and they really want their students to gain a solid understanding about Hawaii because of this connection. 2. Although I am not Hawaiian, I have visited before and even learned about the meanings and types of leis while I was there. Because this was one of my favorite aspects of Hawaii, I wanted to share a bit of my joy for that through a paper lei workshop where we use flower and leaf cutouts for a lei so kids of all ages can try it.
My apologies in advance if this is a silly question, but do fellow Americans think this is something I should refrain from proposing? As in, do you find it questionable an American like myself who isn’t Hawaiian lead this type of event and share information about leis (Ex. The types there are and the plants’ meanings)? I don’t wish to disrespect anyone from Hawaii or their culture, or potentially come off as some expert on leis if I were to pitch this idea. What do you think? -thonking- : v
