hemena sending good vibes to you as you play the waiting game for a while longer! to quote multiple people you, you can click the down arrow next to the "settings" wheel (y'know, there's the quote button, the like button, and then the settings wheel with down arrow button) and click "select post" for all the posts you'd like to quote, then click the "quote" button on just one of those posts and all of them should be quoted in the order you "selected" them (of course by the time I post this someone may have already answered with this, OTL) but sometimes that doesn't work for me, in which case I just do what Aya said (click "quote" on all messages and then copy the code) acouplefruits -- on the blog/vlog note: I did think of blogging/vlogging but I like (relative) anonymity too much, haha (that and I'm not that great at posting anything consistently ANYWHERE) but if any of you want to blog/vlog, go for it!! there's not a lot that people know about being a CIR, including things like CIR events (our separate 日本語のみ sessions at Tokyo orientation and the Mid-Year Conference that basically every CIR experiences, plus CIR meetups etc your region might do) and that you may be drafted into a PA position (I was) there's a huge variety of CIR work so blog/vlogging about what you actually do at work (and how you're adapting to a Japanese govt office or similar environment) would be interesting to prospective CIRs I think the lack of blogs/vlogs/etc I personally chalk up to two factors: 1) the numbers, as CIRs are only ~8% of the entire JET population, and of that 8% I think only about half? maybe two-thirds? are primarily English-speaking, so if you're looking for Eng-lang information, that's not a lot to draw from (for all I know there could be a gazillion Korean-lang CIR blogs but as I can't read Korean I wouldn't know) 2) many (if not most?) CIRs have experienced life in Japan before and therefore may have less of an urge to do the "LOOK I'm in JAPAN!" type of posts that are pretty common in JET blogs/vlogs because they already had that initial ~Japan life~ feeling through study abroad or another experience (I'm 100% not putting down those "Look JAPAN" types of posts, loads of people love making/reading/watching them and more power to them, and of course a number of ALTs also have previous Japan experience, but like...as a general trend) -- that's partially why I wanted to see stuff about the application process and working in a Japanese OFFICE/jobs type of stuff when I was applying to be a CIR, anyway. I already knew about living in Japan and going to school in Japan, but I didn't really know anything about WORKING and developing office relationships (rather than fellow-student relationships) in Japan, which is a whole different experience.

Maybe this isn't the proper place to post about this, but I'm curious to hear the opinions of other soon-to-be-CIRs on this topic. When I was researching the CIR position, I felt a great deal of frustration at how little content there seemed to be in terms of Youtube channels and blogs dedicated to the CIR position. I know CIR erasure is real and there are way less CIRs than ALTs so maybe it's just a numbers thing, but because of this I was thinking about starting a vlog when I begin my post as a CIR. What do you guys think of vlogging? Does anyone have experience with it? Also, what are some things you'd like for there to be videos about that there just simply aren't yet? Some topics I've considered are: apartment/neighborhood tour, budget breakdown, how my Japanese will have improved in a certain time frame, introducing and hearing opinions from other JETs/CIRs in the area at a meetup if they want, what community involvement looks like (cooking classes, cultural experiences, etc.), etc. Anything to add? Any thoughts? Much appreciated!! kumanokazoku.wordpress.com/niigataej.wordpress.com/gaiyaba.wordpress.com/kasamacir.wordpress.com/blog.nagano-ken.jp/cir/williampmorgan.wordpress.com/tabunkakyoto.wordpress.com/kagoshimakato.blogspot.sg/Hello acouplefruitsI quoted myself on a list of CIR blogs I listed a while back. I do know that you're looking more into YouTube vlogs, but if written blogs are your jam too, you might want to take a look at these. Or maybe you have already done so. Anyways, I'm just going to leave these here. I think starting a vlog is a good idea, and I would say go for it. I did vlogging as part of my university studies before, but I don't really have much experience with it, so I can't help you there. I might try vlogging during golden week though!

Any thoughts? Much appreciated!! I tried vlogging during my first stay in Japan but stopped after a while because 1) I underestimated the amount of work
2) My anxiety level at that time was through the roof 3) I didn't really get any responses to it, so I kinda lost my motivation
I think if I would start now it would definitely be different, but these are maybe things to keep in mind if you haven't yet I would definitely enjoy watching it! The topics you're considering already sound really good.

Hi all! Shortlisted from the UK here, Thanks for all the useful info on the forum! Not gonna lie I've been lurking here since I got the results, it's been about 2 years since I last studied Japanese properly, so I am NERVOUS! (but obviously excited) Now it's just a case of waiting for placements I guess

tempurako omg hi, I'm from the UK too!~ Congrats on getting through! Also, concerning the blog thing, I thought a similar thing when I was looking for info so I also have a blog, although it doesn't detail that much about CIR stuff apart from the application process, orientation, eventually mid year conference etc.

Some surprisingly early news from my side: I just got an e-mail saying they will take me for the CIR position if one of the main candidates cancel or if they open a new position. Is that what you always call "short-listed"? The German translation can be kinda misleading on that one and I have a feeling it's not correct. So what else do you call it?
nevermind, just found out it's called "alternates"
I'm happy I got in at least but this also means more waiting

I'm happy I got in at least but this also means more waiting The alternate list can be difficult :/ It essentially means you're in, but you may not actually ever get upgraded.
My best advice is to not lose hope, but to start looking for other things as well. Don't stop your life just for JET, get ready for applying next year if this is what you want to do. (From someone who was an alternate 4 times ^^;; )

I was shortlisted today from San Francisco!! I've been too scared to post updates because I didn't want to jinx the results, but my interviewers were super nice. One of them was a former CIR so I suspect he's here on the CIRHP. I'm super excited to meet yall! YOLOSIK!!! Odds are he was the one that started this thread aha. I am also from the SF consulate

Hey all! Been lurking for a while on this forum but figured it was around time to come out and say hey! I'm a recent CIR shortlist candidate from Los Angeles and I wanted to thank everyone on this forum for providing such a wide array of super useful information. Hope we get along.

The current CIR there is leaving and I've heard that city only asks for Singaporean CIRs-that's what I mean by I think new CIR will be from Singapore. The incoming groups of Singaporean CIRs are on the small side right?

Do you guys feel screwed with your placement because of location or CO? I mean you could also say both, just wondering.

Hi! Only just discovered that this forum is a thing. Short-listed CIR going insane with waiting to hear about placements here, nice to meet ya I was wondering if many of you have a position that could be considered more of a 'glorified ALT'? - I'd absolutely still be happy with a position like that (Everything is experience!) but, since I'm newly graduated with a degree in translation I'd ideally love to be able to get some translation experience. On that note, have any of you done any freelance translation work while in Japan? - Did your CO have any problems with you having a "side job"? (If any of you out there are leaving and know your successor is Irish, hit me up *wink wink nudge nudge* *JK I know you guys aren't actually allowed to let us know yet, I wouldn't want to get you into trouble)

I am indeed from upside down UCD! Hello fellow upside down UCD-er You're probably the perfect person to ask since we studied at the same place - How did you find your Japanese level matched up with the required work at the start? I'm a little nervous that my Japanese level isn't quite good enough yet (I MAY have failed the N2 when I tried for it in December). I know I'll improve pretty quickly and I think my spoken language is much better than my written, I'm just preparing to feel a little swamped at the start.

Everyone “s00ks @ japanese” before they start jet so don’t worry about it! There’s only so much you can learn from school and the rest you learn through immersion, so you’ll be grand! There are plenty of cirs who don’t have any level of jlpt so whether you have n3/failed n2 or n1 it’s totes daijoubs! I applied to jet after graduation (I didn’t know we could apply during our fourth year so I waited for the next application) and I was very rusty with the 語. I still haven’t passed n1 but I’ve definitely improved since coming here just by being exposed to Japanese everyday. Coming here with a translation degree is helpful especially if you end up in a placement which requires a lot of translation work because you’ll already know what to do~ It’s a very stressful and exciting time indeed but try to focus and enjoy the present (especially the cheese and the meat if you eat them). There are only a few Irish cirs so we’re pretty close so when you get here rest assured you’ve got people to support you. Also, *looks to the camera* this forum is a really great place to find hulemdos and support so stick around amirite Miscreative and ことしも魚ろしく ?
