With the new visa-system and the projected influx of foreign workers, I'm exploring ways of providing information about my city in an understandable and attractive way. One of the things I often hear from new foreign residents is that they find going to city hall is a big hurdle to take, because they don't know where to go, who to ask, what to bring etc., and in the end have to rely on their employer. This reliance (although SHOUGANAI to a certain extent) I feel prevents many of them from feeling independent, and can make the power balance between the foreign worker and their employer problematic (we've seen many cases of this power difference being exploited, especially for GINOUJISUUSEI).
To help combat this, I'm currently working on a plan for a video for new foreign residents in my city, to introduce them to city hall, where to find everything, what procedures are necessary, what policies are available for them etc., to make going to city hall a little less 'spoopy' and more accessible. I stumbled upon a series of videos Toshima-ku did for new exchange students, which is pretty close to what I'm thinking of: www.youtube.com/watch?v=nIwIUk1o9L0&list=PLQUvsThzyE6Wyugv2QEkUYOiyN78gO1LGI
I'm planning on shooting it more of a fun, vlog-ish kind of way, introducing city hall in YASASII NIHONGO with subs in various languages (probably Chinese, Korean, English & Vietnamese, considering the local foreign population). I was wondering if anyone here has experience making a video like this, or good (or bad) examples I could refer to?
