Congrats everyone!!
I'm not saying the forums are a good luck charm....but people that post here before the results come out tend to always get shortlisted ;)

Congrats 83tsu and disco! Now have fun googling the crap out of JET life in Japan and stalking the JET FB groups while waiting for your placement - at least I know that's what I did. hue.

Congratulations 83tsu!
Well done to Zztop, Leita, and Marimoooo too!
I'm still waiting because the UK results are staggered, but I worry that they've already sent out all the successful emails haha
Oh well, I have until April 9th to worry about it...

chuhaidialysis I've heard that the UK ones are still being sent out, and since ALTs way outweigh CIRs, they may tend to get shunted towards the end. No need to give up hope yet

Got Alternate! (UK) Which is... not bad but also not great. More waiting involved. Anyway, arthurhastings did you know there's no wetherspoons, greggs, or WKD in Japan? Just thought I should let you know. In case.

Hang in there, chuhaidialysis! As a former alternate, my tip to you is to not put your life on hold as you keep your hopes up.

Hey guys! New to this forum. I just got short-listed from DC, real excited to meet people!
Although, I'm also reading through the threads over in translation and interpretation and just kinda shitting myself.

Congrats, dr. pussy popper! Don't worry yourself over translation/interpretation just yet! There will be plenty of time for that once you find out your placement and more info on exactly what you will be doing as a CIR. Besides, we are all here to help each other

Congratulations and welcome to the CIRHP, dr. pussy popper! Don't worry too much about the translation and interpretation bits yet -- we're all here to help if you run into trouble; that's exactly what those threads are for! (That means you don't see the parts that people are already comfortable doing on their own -- only the tough stuff, which probably gives a disproportionate view of the CIR life.) No one's great at translation right off the bat, but with practice I'm sure you'll do fine! (It's also worth noting that not all CIR positions have a lot of translation.) Also, hang in there chuhaidialysis! Many venerable posters on these forums (now-retired SEM-PIE legend G-Rex and our own currently active Miscreative) were alternates who were either upgraded or were shortlisted the next year or two! Keeping my fingers crossed for you~

Ahhh, thank you everybody! And that's very true, people wouldn't be posting if everything was hunky-dory. I presume the CIR fam must be pretty tight-knit, then? Considering that we're a small fraction of JETs and have a forum devoted to easing anxiety attacks))) Hmm...I feel like I want to do a cute little video blog once everything starts. So many for ALTs! You guys are a little more quiet

Hey guys! New to this forum. I just got short-listed from DC, real excited to meet people! Although, I'm also reading through the threads over in translation and interpretation and just kinda shitting myself. Congrats Jellyana! I've also been lurking around and feeling somewhat overwhelmed with nervousness, also scared of interpreting and wondering how I should practice... Even though with other types of CIR-related work I have experience, like with translation or government work, the thought of doing some things in a Japanese workplace is making me anxious. I also think my Japanese experience/level is lower than other incoming CIRs, but, ah well! I feel at least acting confident helps me, hahah.

I currently work at a company where I'm one of the only non-Japanese people there and it is almost like a Japanese workplace, and I do translations all the time, but being in the US everything is so much more forgiving and lax. I still feel like I got accepted here on a fluke haha but maybe we're all just being too hard on ourselves. ^^

I am kind of scrambling to get together my health check while working full-time... I really don't want to take any time off work but no clinics here do that sort of health check on the weekends NZers have until April 23 to complete it, but there's also a four day weekend for Easter haha. Current/former CIRs - keen to share with me your experiences with the health check? How long did it take for you to complete it and how much did it cost? Did you have to take time off work?

I was able to do both really fast, but I was in college so I just showed up at the school health center and local police station with my forms. Both took under 30 min to do.

I live in Canada, so my experience will differ. I took a day off to do the health check and the police report. For the health check, I just saw my doctor and she wrote me papers for body-juice/urine tests and an X-ray, plus the check-up. I then went to the hospital for the body-juice test (because I didn't want to pay and the wait isn't that long). Then I went to the police station. You can probably find info on the cost and what papers you need on their website. I went to X-rays on another day, before work. After all the tests were done, they sent the info to my doctor, who then called me; my mom or boyhulemdo picked up my paperwork and it cost like $25(?). I had to show ID to pick up the police report. It took about a month.

I was in America and it cost me over $200 :o
Also I wasn't working a 9-5 job at that time, so I just went when I didn't have a shift scheduled.

Being at my college meant it was free for me feel like I should add that when I said the police part took 30 min, I mean the fingerprinting took 30 min. Sending in the FBI forms and waiting for them to come back took a like a month. (Oh and I'm American)
