Yup, UK placements are out! I got Kyoto-fu for both city/prefecture and contracting organisation. Happy as I've lived in Kyoto-shi 6 years thus far and wanted to stay here or in Kansai in general, but still a little in the dark as I have no idea where exactly I'll be living/working from. Anyone with experience, maybe a predecessor to shed some light on the possibilities?

If you only have prefecture written for city/prefecture and CO you will work in the capital of the prefecture, most likely in the Kencho (or Fucho in this case hue) or other facility owned by the prefecture ie an international center etc.

Is that a guarantee or just a general precedence that's been set? I'd certainly be elated if that's the case but I don't wanna get my hopes up prematurely!

beepbeep Ah hello!!! I'm also an Aomori CIR but I guarantee that I'm farther from you than Ham is, haha. I haven't been to Kuroishi yet but welcome to Blue Forest!! We could be the welcome wagon - find a day to go visit and explore Kuroishi at the same time! I got Aomori Tsurutamachi so kinda nearby? Never been so far north and it's a bit more rural than I was hoping for but looks absolutely gorgeous! Sorry if this isn't the best way to tag everyone who said 青森県 I'm not a natural at forums tbh.

Nah I'm in Katsuragi-shi. I was looking at the stats and it seems there are 6 CIR in Nara, 5 of them with the prefecture CO and 1 in a city (aka me).

My CO just got in touch and I'll be working at the fucho in Kyoto city, I'm over the moon as Kyoto city was my number one choice with my other choices being made in order of proximity to Kyoto! The fucho is even a 20 minute bus ride from where I live currently so I wont need to move or change a bunch of stuff.

Hello! I got placed in Hokkaido! Though I was kind of expecting a town/city name as well? Does anyone know if I'm right in thinking that this means that it could be basically anywhere in Hokkaido, bar Sapporo (I assume I would have been told had I been placed in Sapporo).

So exciting to see everyone's placements!! I got 長野県、長野市 and I'm so excited to live and work in such a beautiful, mountainous place! I honestly don't know too much about the region but I am excited to live & learn there~ Congrats to everyone! Ahh congrats, SO JEALOUS! Did you put that down as a preference?? I put nagano-ken as my second preference from memory ありがとう! ^^; I actually had Hiroshima and Kobe as my preferences but I am SO excited to be in Nagano after doing some more research about the area! I always feel best when living in a place surrounded by mountains

Occultkitty Based on my experience, you will indeed be placed at the Kencho (or Docho, I guess), which is usually in the capital, so Sapporo. It's a great city! gatina I like your Junji Ito avatar! While we may not be from your country, please feel free to ask us questions!

Since Sendai is a different city than Kami. I haven't been to Kami but I've been to the area around it, and it's very beautiful! I will be about a 2 hour drive from you up in rock hand. Welcome to Tohoku :)

Many placements in Tohoku end up several hours away from major cities (like mine haha).

imashikanai I'm not in Nara, but I'm maybe an hour away. You'll see very soon how small Kansai is, haha Merry-Gaijin One of my hulemdos back in The Old Country was placed in Bear Origin and stayed the whole 5 years, so something tells me it's a really good placement, place-wise! "small kansai is" *cries* ww

Well, I work in a performing arts center, which I guess is kind of weird. My official CO is the municipal office of a city, but I actually work 20 minutes away in an onsen resort town ^^" My work entirely depends on who the artists who come to stay at our artist-in-residence program are. If they're foreigners, then I basically spend every single day with them helping out with their project, interpreting, showing them around, brainstorming the project, etc. But that's kind of rare. If they're Japanese, then I might be asked to help out with the performance itself through the ticketing office, help desk, making announcements, etc. (behind the scenes stuff). Otherwise I do translations for our website and Facebook and manage all correspondence with applicants from abroad. Sometimes I'll be informed that a foreigner will be coming in for a tour of the center or just coming to town to do something, so I'll be asked to show them around and explain everything. I haven't done it yet, but in a couple months I'll also be attending some international performing arts conferences with the program director so that we can advertise our center and network with other big artist-in-residence programs. I don't teach English for work (most people have a pretty good grasp of it since they deal with foreigners all the time hue) but I do volunteer for an eikaiwa-esque thing on Fridays. And otherwise I participate in other programs at the center like the music and dance classes as like...advertisement, I guess. **I do not have a predecessor so my job really isn't clearly outlined. I get new responsibilities all the time as people get used to me being there. I also get requests from outside the office after more people get to know who I am/I gain a reputation/ etc. Hello! I’m actually applying this year so I should be posting in the 2020 thread, but I found this and was curious how did you get connected with a performing arts center? I am studying theatre and so doing work like this is my ultimate goal for the future, but I didn’t know there were opportunities through JET. I have my CIR interview on the 31st, so if you have any advice on how to get placed in a place with a lot of interaction with the arts, I would greatly appreciate it.

Hello All! I just got confirmed for my CIR interview in the US at the end of the month. I saw in the 2019 that a current CIR is working at a performing arts center and I was wondering if anyone had any information on that? I am studying theatre, so doing international coordinator work for performing arts is my dream and I am wondering if there is a way to ask about it in the interview?
