Forum usage guide: - Boards: The General Discussion board is only visible to registered users; all other boards are visible to everyone.
- Stars: Stars have no real meaning or power beyond what we ascribe to them, but the higher the post count the more stars you will accrue. Post the most and get those shiny stars!
- To get to the newest posts: Next to each thread there should be a button that says "new." Clicking that will take you to the newest posts in that thread.
- To tag people: You can tag people in your posts by using the "insert user link" button in formatting bar to search for a user, or by writing @username. However, the username must be the person's actual account username, and not just the name displayed. In other words, the insert user link button is way easier.
- Hiding your gender: When you register, your account will automatically show your gender. If you do not want this to be seem, go to the profile tab at the top of the page and click "edit profile." Under the "Privacy" section you can toggle gender visibility on or off
- The participated box: In the upper right corner of the forum is a little box will labeled "participated." Clicking on this will open up window with links to all the threads you have posted in, along with " new" buttons on the threads with new posts in them.
- Notifications: If you get a notification, you can click on the little number instead of "Profile" and jump right to the notifications. Same applies to notifications for private messages.
- Changing your name: To change your forum name, go to your profile tab and select "edit profile." From there, click the personal tab and you can change your "display name" which will be the name that shows up on this forum.
- Avoiding spam: To turn off the automatic e-mails from the forum everytime something happens (your post is quoted, you get a message, etc.) go to your profile tab and select "edit profile." From there, click the "notifications" tab, and you will be able to turn the e-mail notifications for different forum events on or off.
- Adding spoilers (text): If in "preview" put a [ spoiler ] (no spaces between word and bracket) before the text you wish to hide.
If in "BBCode," put a [ spoiler ] before the text you wish to hide, and then [ /spoiler ] at the end.
In preview, you do not have to put [ /spoiler ] after the text.
(Ex. [ spoiler ] text to hide [ /spoiler ] )
- Images: You can post images to threads, but they will automatically resize smaller. To see the full size image just click on it.

However, we are limited to only 200mb of attachments, so please don't run wild with this, or else I will have to delete older files when the storage gets full.
- cheeky huleezus: the forums have a cheeky huleezu function where some words are automatically replaced with others, which are mostly used 1) to protect the privacy of people whose real names get posted on the forums, 2) to replace words that trigger page blocking (for offices with strict browser restrictions), or 3) reduce inappropriate language. If you type something and when it gets posted the words are different, it's probably the cheeky huleezus kicking in.
(note to all folks, please let me know what you want to see in here and I shall update the top post accordingly. Once we get a good amount of info and we think it's complete I'll lock the thread )

Sparkles, I really like the idea of a Q&A or "how-to forum real good" thread. It seems like finding new posts, changing your id, and avoiding the spam from the site are the big things. We can then add more if people get confused on stuff. Maybe something about how the little Participated box will take you to threads you've posted in that have been updated? |

Hm perhaps in the tagging bit you should put that @username means their actual username, which may or may not be the same as their display name?
(Has anybody else even noticed this thread?)

No, you can have your fun, but having stars displayed leads to long posts because some people have a gazillion of them and then I have to scroll more, making more noise in the silent office. |

could prob add stuff about not just forum functions but also forum culture and lore, forum slang and traditions, how people use it etc etc etc I suggested this too and a number of people said that that's the point we would be too far up our own collective bungholes. But most of those people are gone and I am still in support of this for posterity. |

Thank you ugh someone uninstalled chrome on my friday office computer so i don't even have access to my gifs anyway what you want is the direct link for your gif image innit imgur often gets blocked at people's work, so if you have an imgur link try rehosting to giphy or gfycat or something else take the direct link and copy in the post comment box, there is a button for "insert image" you can click this and paste the link, or just simply paste the link and write {img}link{/img} (with the {}s actually being square brackets) it's also good etiquette to put them in a spoiler box so people don't get surprised/caught spoiler boxes are simply: {spoiler}stuff you want to spoil{/spoiler} again with {}s being square brackets |

same applies for straight up images too
they should also automatically get resized so don't worry too much about linking a giant image as it should shrink

yeah I can get images to work fine, but all my gif attempts just come up as a little generic picture thumbnails ie people are not seeing my lovely gifs.

i have been "taken" to spammy sites recently too... let me see what i can do edit. i cannot access the proboard forums right now because of internet blocks. if previous Eternal Overlords ( karuru, Mumblesnore, nikinee, etc) or my coEternal Overlord ことしも魚ろしく know how to deal with this or whatever let me know. otherwise i will try to see to it tonight after i get home. i did see a way to report ads but it seemed to be only for the ads on your screen (not the IKINARI new page ones) |
