I can't believe there's only TWO full more days before departure! Tbh I'm lowkey freaking out I have so much stuff left to do! Wishing I was in group B rn so I had extra time to prepare, but let's be real I probably would have just procrastinated the extra week away anyways ^^;; Look forward to seeing everyone in group A orientation!

I have like 1.5 days left to pack before I go to PDO and start my adventure. I'm currently in omiyage hell. Trying not to stress too much about office omiyage -- I got a bag of my favorite ~American chocolates~ for that. However, I'm also meeting the mayor on my first day and need something good for him. I bought a gourmet chocolate bar with orange pieces in it because Florida but I feel like I should get a non-food item too. Any ideas or advice?

hue, I didn't give my mayor anything. Also I was so nervous when I met him I couldn't understand a word he said to me. I must have made a fantastic impression.
That said I think food is the best omiyage. We (and our mayor's office in particular) get so much stuff from our sister city delegations (4+ every year) that we quickly run out of space to put all of it, and a lot just ends up in storage. Food is great because it goes away after it has been enjoyed.

I bought omiyage for my office and my supervisor, that was it. Don't stress too much over it.

^ What they said. I didn't bring a special gift for the mayor either, I just bought a bunch of chocolate tasting squares and bagged them up with bags I bought at daiso to give out. I remember the TSA guy stopped me and tested them for explosives at security.
When I came back from a work trip to the US I did bring an extra bag of dried fruits and nuts for my soup, but that was because she put in a lot of extra work coordinating it. I didn't even get anything special for my boss, hue.
Also, agreed about food being the best option, in my experience, even 'useful' omiyage tends to sit around, since if it's something you'd regularly use, you probably already have one.

So many mugs
My former shitucho pressed one on me when I first showed up like you don't have much dishwear DESHO?? DESHO?? He'd have filled my purse with them if I'd let him, luckily I escaped with only one very large mug instead. (He also tried to convince me to take a large plaster sculpture of a bald eagle when we moved offices).

I think it must have been a gift from some American delegation. We're comeing up on our 65th sister city aniversary, so we have decades worth of weird shit in storrage that we're not allowed to toss out.

Everything's starting to feel a bit more real now, but that makes it even more difficult to know what to pack because panic. My family keep asking if there's anything else I need to get/sort out and I just. don't. know.
