CaptainSeery I thought reply forms are sent in after placements are notified, but I have already sent in mine way way way way way before. Like, as soon as I was short-listed. I do think they do allow you to pull out if you don't like a particular place? I'm not sure myself *shrugs ^^;;;

I suspect it will be before end-May.... because COs are not allowed to contact you until after May 25, and that date is usually set to allow reply forms to come in - and if I remember correctly reply forms are sent in after you've been notified of your placement. Or was it after you're shortlisted? Hmmmm... it's been five years, I can't remember hue Have you been told to send in reply forms yet? I had to send in my reply form within a week of being shortlisted

Yeah, okay, as I was typing that post I started second guessing myself about if reply forms were sent after short-listing notification or after placement notification. And I guess it was after short-listing, which now that you say that sounds familiar.
Maybe you'll all get told a little later than I thought. Maybe they're waiting for the reply forms (although google tells me the deadline was April?) to be sure that they people who actually intend to do JET are the ones who they notify. Would be silly to give someone a placement if they had already said no.

Houston Consulate, USA. 様似町、北海道! Congrats on your placement! Your Prefectural Advisor at Hokkaido Government is a sweet, wonderful, and super involved lady who would do everything she can to help you out.
You might have heard this already but here's a note: your position is a brand new one, but your "pred" (sort of) was a super-ALT who was quite good at Japanese and did lots of CIR-type of work, which was one of the reasons they decided to create a CIR position (because if they want her successor to continue the same type of work, they need someone who speaks Japanese to an extent, and it only made sense for them to get a CIR if they needed that insurance).
Samani is a small but quite international town in that regards. They try to promote their geopark internationally, so they would probably be extremely impressed if you learned a thing or two about it before you go Their local characters are "Apoi-chan" and "Kanran-kun". www.apoi-geopark.jp/
Also Hokkaido in general is a wonderful place. I'm your PA's predecessor but I still live and work in Sapporo because I fell in love with this prefecture. I hope you come to love where you are, too!

I wonder if anyone thought I was YOU SHOE when looking at my packet?
Probably not.
(my soup told me once when drinking that he considered rejecting me based of my picture (because I had very messy facial hair and hipster glasses) so that was fun)

I am not even PA, but I have to do so many supervisor-ish jobs for the ALTs that they were just like here are all the new ALTs coming どうぞ and just gave me a hugh stack of paperwork with all their applications.
For a split moment, I felt like I had so much power with all their paperwork.

yeah, when you apply you don't realise that all your application form and everything ends up in the hands of your office, so they know A LOT about you before you arrive

(my soup told me once when drinking that he considered rejecting me based of my picture (because I had very messy facial hair and hipster glasses) so that was fun) hue they can't just reject you for a reason like that if they had tried C.LAIR would've shut that down real quick like they do with all the appearance and/or vaguely/not-so-vaguely racist reasons for rejecting (you can say something like "we don't have housing big enough for people with a family" or something practical but there's no guarantee C.LAIR will grant the rejection appeal) but this just illustrates once again why Japan (and any place, really) insisting on pictures for resumes and whatnot is TERRIBLE
