hi guys
tomorrow i need to talk at our 担当者セミナー and generally be moral support for my supervisor
if you did a similar thing, what did you talk about/what are you going to talk about?
apart from the standard "let's communicating to treat each other like humans" spiel

I didn't know such things exist until the PA conference last week

Oh I found out today I'm doing this next week (talking for thirty minutes at the meeting). My supervisor is giving me stuff my senpai made last year that I can use as 参考.

It would be a little strange if we had one considering it would just be Ividia's soup sitting there taking notes while I talk about the BOE, ALTs and other such things that don't effect him all that much

My list of things to talk about: -using JETs for things besides teaching (CLAIR's pushing it this year) -create a 相談しやすい atmosphere with regular meetings and good communication -passing on the new JET 引継書 Japanese version for them to hopefully fill out and discuss with new JETs
I usually try to talk about "common JET problems" but my goal this year is to make the meeting itself suck less.

songbanana is a good lady
i dont do this, but if given the chance i would really like to encourage COs to work with leaving jets to create a guide on some stuff. the leaving jets should be making their own little documents, but cooperation between them would go a long way in getting answers to some basic stuff for people straight off the bat.

I always feel bad whenever CLAIR or whoever is like "so how many of you knew about this thing" and I'm like yup yup did it last year and everyone's looking around like "what thing??" Basically cements my status as a Hermione know-it-all... So anyway trying to use that obnoxiousness for good. Got yo back G-rex!

So I also have no idea what the hell the 担当者セミナー is Nor if it ever did happen in Hokkaido Nor if it ever will
And if it doesn't
That's fine.

Is this different from 都道府県別サポート研修会? according to songbanana, they are the same...? here 担当者セミナー is just for HS teachers (94/100 ALTs here are prefectural) so it's hosted by the 県教育委員会, hence it's mostly the BOE JPA who does all the work. we don't have anything for the 市町 sups so I can't help. sorry D:

yeah ours only about 16 came, and although half is aimed at new supervisors with basic info about JET and Eternal Overlord stuff, the other half is new changes and 情報交換 and all that jazz
not a huge thing but i think most places are supposed to do them. maybe your supervisor(s) are doing it without you? i only ever turned up for a little bit the first two times but this time i was here the whole time cos i am KUWASII

Is this different from 都道府県別サポート研修会? according to songbanana, they are the same...? According the the 通知 my JPA got, it's officially called JETプログラム担当者会議. The 都道府県別サポート研修会 is (I believe) a general term for any training seminar the COs get, which CLAIR offered to send a speaker to (in a different 通知) so it could refer to the 担当者会議, if the pref has another 会議 that would probably work too as long as it fulfills the requirements they specify (# of participants, etc.)

We had two last month. I asked the Regional Prefectural Advisors in Geefs to give me a list of shizz they wanted me to tell the Sups. They contained things like actually talk to us, tell us about garbage things when we get there, tell us about evacuation places, dont think that everything we do is everything that everyone in our country does, give us a schedule of school events in advance. Then I also explained about the support system we have and stuff.
Basically I was in charge of talking in more depth about the support system we have and voicing all ALT complaints.

So guess what, I THINK the 担当者セミナー is actually happening this year in Hokkaido. I think. We didn't in the past couple years because we had not enough people interested.

Here's what I talked about at ours this year: -resources that JETs have (PA/AJET website, 引継書 etc) -give info to your JETs -things JETs can do (ex. using ALTs over the summer, having CIRs do more than just translation) -create a 相談しやすい environment (mostly talked about 勤務評定 which is in the manual and supporting mental health, since there's that new online counseling system) If you haven't looked at it yet I recommend all y'all get a copy of the CO manual--it's full of keigo and jargon but it answers some procedural questions ALTs might have and you know how much COs know so when someone says "my supervisor doesn't know" it makes sense (or you can point them to the right page) Attachments:JET.docx (13.9 KB)

Nevermind it's probably not happening in Hokkaido it seems. That being said, the 任団マニュアル and the 質疑応答集 do answer a lot of the inquiries from JETs and the BOEs. The BOEs are given these as well but some of them just don't bother to look at them before asking us every little thing.

PA homies.
Hey, does anyone know of anywhere either on the JET homepage or CLAIRs page or really anywhere on the internet that talks about the new email/skype mental health counseling service for JETs that was mentioned during the PA conference?
YOROSIK
edit: Okay, it was called the JET Onlince Counseling Service, and I'm looking through the old documents and they are saying that we should've gotten a notice with the password etc in June.
Did anyone actaully receive this? I don't remember getting it yet.....
