in winnipeg we called it "Animal Services" oh man, so many dead animals We saw animal services about the interwebs too but animal services seemed to apply as well as killing animals they also ran shelters. So I asked if they operate shelters and I was told no.....so it seems like they are just soulless killing robots, thus, animal control. |

this used to be just the 企画担当 which was simply the "Planning Section"
now, to make it 統一 with other things, i want to make it "Planning and International Students Affairs"
my issue is, should "Students" be plural? or singular? both kinda sound weird for some reason

I think it should be singular, because if you take out the International, Student Affairs sounds better than Students Affairs to me.

i figured if i were to make it plural, it'd need an apostrophe:

but i'm not going to do that and i've already decided to go with my initial gut instinct and keep it singular

Hey guys, I have to think of an 英語表記 for the Aichi Police departments' 人身安全対策室, a new office which will be part of the 子ども女性安全対策課 (Children and Women's Safety Division) in the 生活安全部 (Community Safety Department).
So far I've thought of:
(Personal) Safety (Countermeasures) Office
(Human) Safety (Policy) Office
(Personal or Human) Safety (Planning) Office
A close example from the same department is the 福祉安全対策室 (Welfare and Safety Office), where the 対策 is left out altogether, so I'm considering that as well.
I'll be getting more info on what exactly the office does shortly. Until then, any ideas?

I prefer "Safety Measures Office" -- concise and vague enough to cover a lot of things.

They prevent and protect people from Domestic Violence, stalking and child abuse
So...... seeing as you can't simply include all those things in the name, I think Personal Safety Office sounds best.

My understanding is, it used to be 子育て支援課 (why did they change it? I have no clue).
They provide info and support to parents who are raising children.

hello all it's that time of year let's translating and uniforming! 防災消防企画課translator san案：Disaster and Fire Preventions Planning Division G-Rex案： Disaster and Fire Prevention Planning Division notes: i feel like there's not much we can do with this one? 災害対策課translator san案: Disaster Countermeasures Division G-Rex案: Disaster Preparedness Division notes: 対策 is a dumb word and i don't like it 原子力防災課translator san案: Nuclear Disaster Prevention Division G-Rex案: Nuclear Safety Division notes: i feel like that's better than the nuance that a nuclear disaster is just waiting to happen like the nankai trough earthquake or something 医療保険政策課translator san案: Medical Insurance Policy Division G-Rex案: Health Insurance Policy Division notes: i feel like "health insurance" is better than "medical insurance" but that's a personal feelign and i don't think either are wrong what do we think? |

I'm pretty much in agreement with you, G-Rex(Especially re: the nuclear one) Referenced the list we use, but unfortunately we don't have any comparable divisions. We do, however use health insurance rather than medical, and 対策 pops up as either measures or countermeasures (though I see nothing wrong with your above suggestion either) 参考までどうぞ |
