I've been reminiscing about Tokyo Orientation all day: + the view + meeting other cirs - jet lag - boring KOUZA + a few of the KOUZA were useful and fun + Tokyo - not really being able to enjoy Tokyo because of the jetlag and stress - not being served any Japanese food at any of the meals at the hotel, WTF was that about?? + despite the minuses it was pretty bants hue seriously? what kind of food did they serve? curious.

I read a couple of JET blogs that said the breakfast buffet was ok, but lunch was usually not very tasty... sad.

I've heard that they serve the same food every year. Especially the lunch pasta, I've heard many years of JETs complain about it.

It's weird because it's such an OSYALE hotel.

I was group C, so there were only like 40 JETs there all together, only 3 of us were CIRs. This made the orientation so much more interesting because then they would just directly call on each of us to answer questions or talk about whatever. This became really interesting during the 翻訳・通訳 sessions and the like ビジネスマナー session.

I think it's because there's just so many JETs. I stayed in Keio Plaza for an orientation the first time I came to Japan in high school, and since we were much smaller (maybe 100 people?) they just gave us tickets to get into the actual hotel buffets and it was great.

April orientation was absolute hell for me, had major jet-lag and was the only native English speaker in the group of 80. I found the seminars really boring a lot of the time but the cir presentations and translating and interpreting ones were actually pretty useful. we stayed at a hotel in Kojimachi close to clair and the food was supposedly good (vegetarian, vegan and allergies all got placed at the same table with sandwiches everyday...(;. ) Word of advise : don't do the Japanese language course that CLAIR talks about at the orientation, its the biggest waste of time and almost an insult to CIR's.(it was sort of similar to taking n4 or n3 of the JLPT...) the advanced course is far from advanced with grammar points such as そうです coming up frequently. I finished the 6 month course over the space of 8 days when I had free time at my desk.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'll let my fellow CIR hulemdos (who are not on the forum) know as well

So apparently, this year, they did announce that the Japanese Language Course is for N5 to N3 standard.
