I just came back from the CIR interview at Toronto this morning. Oh hell it was difficult. About half way through I was asked the question about wether or not I am willing to accept ALT offers. I answered positively, then they asked me to sing a children's song about Canada, and to give a lesson on a Canadian animal to grade 7 kids in Japan. During the mock lesson they were chatting in Japanese and making comments on my (very unskilled) drawing I really tried to laugh it off and carried on with an awkward explanation on how moose sometimes cross the roads in the mountain. The Japanese portion was harder than I expected! I was asked 2 specific question about the article, to which I think I answered with very similar responses 🤷♀️ Thank goodness I was warned about the children's song question, and had a few prepared in my mind, would've died so hard haha overall it was positive but those aaaaaawwwkkward moments are killing me as flashbacks now hahaha how's everyone dealing with the post-interview time? Hope we all find good distractions!

OTSUKALE Gloriaria I'm already over my impatiently waiting phase. I hope that you'll be able to find some good distractions. I'm currently distracting myself by learning Korean lololol. I still keep getting flashbacks about my interview even till now though. So don't worry, you're not alone. Haha.

hi hulemdos, I too have been lurking in the shadows of CIR HP waiting for my interview, which was today. having totally psyched myself out over the Japanese language portion, the reading excerpt turned out to be pretty easy and I just had to deal with nerves getting me tongue-tied and making my pronunciation super めちゃくちゃ. glad to find some other hopefuls to commiserate and wait with -- 4649/good luck!

Just checked my email from last year. I found out on March 30th. It seems like the interviews were held a little earlier this year compared to last year, so maybe results will come out sooner idk.
I have no advice for making the wait bearable because I was a nervous wreck basically the entire first half of 2016 due to various stages of JET waiting anxiety.

This is how it panned out for me:
Interview was beginning of February. Interview results came out beginning of April. (was an alternate) Upgraded at the end of June. Finally departed near the end of August.
Gosh there were exactly like two months in between each notification. hue

Caic they told me that I would know the results in March. I do hope they keep to their promise Mumblesnore thanks for checking your email. I have readied my heart to wait till the 31st of March. I can do this!!!! Sheepy I so do not want to go through that. My interview was at the end of Jan, so I hope that helps to make a little difference to when the results will be out. It's like you have an affinity with the even numbered months..

Hahah you young'uns don't know how good you have it.
I didn't get notified until mid-April.
(Everything used to be about two weeks later - my interview was in mid-February instead of January like they all are now.)

i dont think the embassies and consulates really know a concrete date for how clair will decide and send out info so I wouldn&t hold out for march just in case it ends up being in the beginning of april

This is just for shortlisting/alternate notification though, no? Placement notification comes significantly after that.
Also your CO broke the rules XD

I received a timeline notice from my consulate, and says we would know by mid-April and only confirmed date for us is April 25th being the very last day to reply "yes" or "no". So I've been digging a hole for myself to focus on other things.... but not really helping....ahhhhhhhh Anyways, something off the topic here. My roommate and I adopted a lovely ragdoll cat last year, soooo adorable and big and fluffy. >_< However, it turns out that my roommate is getting married later this year and probably won't be able to keep him. Therefore I was wondering about whether or not it would be possible for me bring him along to Japan? Anyone has any experience with this? I would guess that it depends on the regulation of the residence we are assigned to?

It's a huge pain in the ass and the whole process takes ~9 months, and it doesn't really have anything to do with your residence. It's a national thing that applies to anyone taking a pet into Japan.
Simon and Martina of the YouTube channel EatYourKimchi did a very extensive video about the whole process, and I'm sure there are a lot of other blogs and resources about it online.
But basically: yeah, it's not recommended.

Also probably depends on your placement and how lenient they are. I had to find a private apartment (brought a partner, not a pet, but still couldn't move into the place they found as a result) and my work was really cool with that, and other people have brought pets over, but I remember there was some drama on the incoming jet FB page where a girl had organised to bring her cat and her BOE just basically said no, you can't bring the cat into the place we found and no, you can't move into a different place. I think she ended up bringing it and keeping it at a mate's house. You should probably be okay, but it's probably better to be aware.
Ragdolls are adorable though so I hope you are able to bring him with you!

Hi everyone. This is my first time posting. I interviewed for the CIR position and am eagerly awaiting to hear if I'm short-listed or not I have a question for current CIRs, once you were notified that you were short-listed, how soon did you need to start the visa process? My husband needs to renew his passport and we are applying for my son's passport in the next few days, and was curious if we would need to expedite the process? よろしくお願いします!

It would help if you could tell us what country you are from. Every country's process is different, and we have people from various countries on this board to help you out.
In general, I would say not to worry about it now and just wait for the email from your consulate. Trust me, they will give you plenty of time.
I don't remember exactly how soon I started the process after getting short-listed, but all the steps were very clearly lined out by my consulate and it was relatively stress free. If you're American, I would recommend getting your FBI background check submitted ASAP, if you haven't already.

Welcome to the CIRHP! お疲れ様です! The visa process came after finding out my placement, which I assume is probably the same for everyone across the board. In my situation, I was notified of my placement about a month before my departure date and the following day I started the visa process. I had to send in all my completed forms and my passport via mail by the 2-week point prior to departure. I received my passport back with my visa on the day of departure. (I am from southern California, so this is how it was for us.)

Thanks, mumblesnore2.0, for the advise on the FBI background check. I had received some information about getting that started from the JET Office in Houston and was planning to get that started

I would say you probably don't need to expedite the passports, but it might be good to get the applications in ASAP, even before you get the results from JET.

As someone who didn't realise I needed to renew my passport until the last minute (I think I only just had two years on it) and had to pay extra to get it earlier, do this do this do this.

Hello everyone! As April approaches... slowly... I realize that Australia/U.K and other parts of Europe are getting their results in! It seems like my fellow North America applicants still have to wait for a week or two to find out, looking at some of the posting about shortlist/waitlist really makes me nervous So my plan is to keep my hand in sand like an ostrich until that email comes knocking. Best of luck to my dear fellow applicants!!!
