Congratulations, everyone!!! Now the wait for placements begins. You thought the waiting was over hehehe... At least two spots opening up here in Thorny Castle, although we are the least popular prefecture so I doubt anyone will want them! It was my first choice though and I got it

So, after Atlanta finally released results today, I found out I'm shortlisted! Only thing is, I'm still not entirely sure it's as a CIR. I said I wanted to be considered as an ALT as well, and while I'm still 90% positive I'm a CIR, the short-list letter was sent out to "ALT/CIR candidates," which means that the same letter was sent to both groups. I'm going to be calling the consulate first thing in the morning to figure out which one it is, though, so we'll see! I'm just glad I made it in, but I'm still hoping to get on the SS CIR with the rest of y'all!

I guess in cases of the regions with larger number of applicants it would be super stressful for the coordinator to managa individual emails. One of my hulemdo who also applied to CIR received an ALT position, which came with a separate email of this particular notice. ( •̀ .̫ •́ )✧ So I would assume that you have successfully made it into CIR, my comrade!

Hello CIRs!
I have my CIR interview coming up next tuesday. I'm from Belgium, things can be slow here.
I have a pretty good idea of what they'll be asking during the interview, but I was wondering: what are some good question to ask the interviewers?
Thanks in advance!

I have a pretty good idea of what they'll be asking during the interview, but I was wondering: what are some good question to ask the interviewers? Thanks in advance! Hello there! I'm very surprised that Belgium has the interviews at this time of the year, when would the successful candidates be leaving? I don't want to put words in your mouth but I'll describe my experience. One of the interviewers were the JET program coordinator in my city and I have met her many times at the JET info sessions at my university. Therefore although I'm sure she probably doesn't recognize me, I knew her name and some experience about her. So when it comes to the question part I addressed her by her name (we were in a hurry so they didn't do self-Intro, but if they did, try your best to grasp the name cause it does help with the impression) and asked about what were some of her difficulties during work in terms of gender and race. (We are both Asian-Canadians) So I would suggest prepare general questions like "pros and cons" "biggest accomplishment" "what would you have done differently" etc. But after you get to know them a bit, try to find something in common and ask questions accordingly, so the question would be related to things that you ACTUALLY CARE about. I think making things relatable is very important in all interviews. But again this is a best-case-scenario, if you don't have the time to find common points in there then stick to a question that concerns you the most, so that it's not a simple one sentence Q&A section but an interactive conversation that goes back and forth a bit. Good luck on your interview!!!

Good luck on your interview!!! Thanks, this helps a lot! I am hoping there will be a former CIR present, so I can ask them about their experiences. I'm not too sure though. The succesful candidate (there's only 1 position: Kanazawa, where I've studied before aww yiss) would leave at he same time as all the other JETs! Which is July 30th, if I'm correct.

Raulsen & Gloriaria my notification was also straightforward. It only had 'CIR' on it. Must be really nerve-wracking to see both appearing. ctnl my interviewers did not even ask me if I had any questions for them! *is appalled
And I didn't have any former JET person there, not that I could tell, even though there were four people interviewing me, as opposed to three. My case is probably very rare, though. All the best for your interview!

Another question: Is there any possibility that the entire interview will be conducted in Japanese?

Thank you! ^^ I haven't heard of the entire interview being conducted in Japanese (when I searched for interview tips and stuff on Google), but I did hear of interviews that were a mix of Japanese and English. Still, I think most of the time, they will ask you questions in English, before giving you a Japanese passage and asking you things about it. Edit: You can see how I fared for my Japanese section if you look at the first page of this thread.

I'm not too worried about the Japanese part, but I know the they will be testing my Japanese, English and French skills. None of these is my mother tongue, so I'm afraid I'll forget ALL of them in the heat of the moment Why must Belgium have several official languages? *sigh*

ctnl Wow, that's hell of an interview to have it in 3 languages!0_0 I was interviewed in Toronto, being a fairly big city I was surprised that I only had 2 very nice ladies interviewing me, and also another former-JET to greet me at the waiting room. (I highly suspect she is the hidden judge) In terms of the Japanese portion, it consisted of me reading an one-page passage similar in the style of a news article. I noticed that there were 4 different colors of the paper, and I think they picked the hardest one for me (my paper was taken from the pile at the very end) cause OMG all those kanji.... I was given no time to read it through to myself and had to read it out loud as soon as I got the article, honestly I think I bombed reading it, probably shamed my professors. But I did thrive really hard on the answering portion trying my best to deliver some thoughtful answers, but with all that nervousness only broken Japanese came out from me, this left me in anxiety for a little while. But I think they really are quite considerable for the Japanese portion, so don't panic, I wish I have prepared more by reading lot loud new articles at home. But overall it was a valuable experience, best of luck! mikazuki Raulsen Yaaaay, welcome to the newbie family! Fellow 同期さん, よろしくお願いします( `・∀・´)ノ!

Yup, I'd die if I had to switch back and forth between 3 languages in any one interview. Still, if you've made it this far, I'm sure you've got it!
Thanks for all the positivity here, folks! Any other newbies leaving from Group A?

Fair enough, let's keep it EIGO. (you can tag by putting an @ before someone's username btw) But yeah, I'm Dutch. One of the only three (four starting August) CIRs in Japan right, unfortunately. Do you know how many Belgian CIRs there are right now? (btw, in college I studied in Maastricht but lived about 300m across the border on your side for about one and a half year, so technically I'm a former resident of Belgium haha)

(You tag people as "@ username" but without the space. Although some people's usernames aren't the same as the names on their profiles, so hover over their names to find out their username to tag.)
Ik wil meer nederlands spreken, maar er is hier niemand met wie ik kan het spreken. Dus gebruik ik Duolingo alleen.
Translation: I want to speak Dutchg more, but there's no one I can speak it with here. So I just use Duolingo.

I'm guessing we get 3-4 because NIPPON loves tulips, cheese, clogs and windmills (although if I had to choose instead of these I would much rather have chocolate and actually good tasting beer as our national stereotypes). Also the historical connection has lead to a whole bunch of sister cities relationships and BUMKA KOLYU.
