I liked Boyhood and thought the backlash it got was a little sad (I don't think the filmmakers expected the film to be as successful as it was, and anything successful gets a backlash). I didn't think it was the greatest film ever but I liked how it depicted a fairly normal family - like, the way they interacted with each other reminded me of an actual family.
Ultimaely, though, the Oscars is wrong more often than it's right, so I tend to just forget it when they make silly decisions and feel happy when people/films I like are recognised.

Even if I didn't enjoy it much, it was definitely interesting how they made the movie. And it was kind of 懐かしい since the girl and boy are basically the same age as me and my brother. But yeah, I don't take the Oscars too seriously, but I like to try and watch as many of the movies possible/see Wes Anderson get lots of awards.

It's such a lovely film. It's also easily Ralph Fiennes' best performance.

The Mid-Year Chaos thread is discussing Boyhood?
Is this the most off topic we have ever been? I wonder can we measure how off topic we are......

That movie is such a perfectly orchestrated work of art, it kind of feels like the pinnacle of everything Wes Anderson's been trying to do, so it'll be interesting to see what he'll do next. I think he's working on an animated movie?

I think he's working on an animated movie? That will be interesting! I liked his version of Fantastic Mr. Fox (my favourite Roald Dahl when I was a kid, alongside Matilda and James and the Giant Peach). I understand a lot of people's criticisms regarding Wes Anderson and how he's twee but I'm a fan because: - I've enjoyed all of his films so far (except Steve Zissou and even then I wasn't bored) - I've watched The Royal Tenenbaums so many times because when I was in my early teens and just discovering how much I loved films and the cinema it was one of my favourites, so I think I will always have an enormous soft spot for that film. - When I was a teen, Wes Anderson soundtracks got me into music I grew to love but otherwise would not have listened to (The Velvet Underground, Bob Dylan, The Ramones - yes I know they're all stereotypical bands but I wouldn't have learnt about them when I was young if not for his soundtracks). And in recent years he got me into Francoise Hardy and I love her. - ...I like the twee-ness and the overly stylised look of everything and all the clothes and interior design in all his films. Sorry for that essay, hue. Grand Budapest Hotel and Royal Tenenbaums are my favourite sooo off-topic ごめん. Edit - So much tl;dr. But I think I could probably recite The Royal Tenenbaums off by heart, hue.

Yeah pretty much 100% 同感 Fantastic Mr. Fox is probably my favorite movie of all time (also I remembered the scene where he gets into a SMACKDOWN with the badger after I changed my picture/imagined me and karuru SMACKDOWNing like that hue) and what got me into his movies in the first place, but I love them all. Rushmore is interesting but a little cringe-y to watch because that main character is so bitter ugh v-v

Fantastic Mr. Fox is so cute. At first I was like "It's so different from the book and BLEEEEGH" but I eventually watched it and it's just such a cute and funny film and I love the way they animated it.
Because of this conversation I've now got These Days by Nico going round my head, hue.
