So...the ever-problematic word 対象. I feel like this one comes up a lot but there's never a satisfactory 結論.
Context: the 対象 of this 調査 are children, but they are not the ones filling out the survey (that would be the parents), so most of the typical candidates like "target audience" or whatever don't really seem appropriate. Any good ideas?
ETA my current 案 is "Groups Covered" (since the 対象 includes two different categories of children)

So this history museum I'm translating stuff for is going to be named 「あおもり北のまほろば歴史館」.
I'm liking the look of "Aomori Jewel of the North History Museum" for the English, although it's a little wordy and I'm wondering if I should just cut out 北のまほろば (although that makes it sound pretty vanilla).
Any thoughts?

Right? I feel like I want to keep that nuance in somehow, because Aomori History Museum/Museum of History just sounds dull.
Although it does get the job done.

when translating the word 外国人 do you guys use the word "foreigners"?
i believe there was something raised in the past about how that may be slightly discriminatory, so im just wondering how i should translate this.

Depending on context, I go with plain-old "tourists" or "non-Japanese".
I think I have used "foreigner" a few times, but pretty sparingly.

For tourists you could maybe say 'overseas tourists' or 'tourists from abroad'.

i honestly don't see what's wrong with "foreign tourists" This is actually one of the few contexts where I find it ok. For residents and the like, I tend to go with "non-Japanese". |

international residents
non-japanese residents/members
overseas visitors/visitors from overseas
although i would also be fine tacking on "foreign" to most words. i never really think too deeply about it but i think we often go with "international X" or "non-japanese X" (when strictly referring to a difference in 扱い between japanese citizens and non-japanese citizens, for example)
idk wtf i'm saying anymore

Hey guys, how would you translate 発生 when it's talking about animals?
"Outbreak" makes it sound like a disease.
"Resurgence," maybe?
I'm actually thinking of skipping it altogether.

The 平成２７年 sounds weird to me too, I wouldn't really put 2015 in there. I would say something like:

sounds like it would be fine. i assume the 2015 is there for posterity's sake, so people in a few years' time will at least know it was 2015 they were talking about? idk context, but i don't agree that it's necessary in the title. maybe confirm that they actually need that?

I had the same word in the context of mosquito larvae so I used hatching, but that probably isn't very helpful.

I think putting the 2015 in parentheses solves my problem, since Habu Jellyfish Warning 2015 sounds like a punk rock band's upcoming concert tour or something.

Ended up going with Habu Jellyfish Outbreak Advisory (2015) because I found a few articles where they used the term outbreak when talking about jellyfish.

資源 is one thing but as i dont actually do much official doc translating, i dont know if it fits the original context of "online etc resources"?
