People who love baking or have serious gluten problems, I have a quick question! What would you call (はな粉)? Like literally, I see it as flower flour, but that clearly wouldn't work and everything else just points to it being a grade of flour for how crushed it is or something. It's in the context of soba making. I found this definition online "はな粉は、殻付きのまま石臼で挽いて殻をむくときにでる粉です。しょっぱなに採れる粉だから「はな粉」と云うのだそうです" So it sounds like it's the first grind of wheat after the shell has been removed Secret special blend it is

Jisho also gives you the option of robust, but google images just brings up hamburger meat flavored crisps and stuff. For the record, this isn't about a meat product. In general, almost nothing HAS to be translated a certain way. Meaty means something specific, and if it doesn't work in your case, then you can for sure use something else!

I've been consulting some of the sample interpretation material provided in our orientation and I am having a hard time. For some reason I just cannot manage to keep notes and my short term memory in check. My mind inevitably turns into mush and I end up incapable of saying anything and blanking- even for ostensibly easy sentences. I'm not quite sure how to fix this.
For example when taking notes it's very hard for me to develop any sort of systematic body of notes or symbols that corresponds to things in the material I'm interpreting appropriately. Even after I've studied using them in certain ways, when it gets to the actual material I'm supposed to interpret, I simply cannot produce anything sensible.
For example, if somebody gives a list of topics that I have to remember, it's very hard for me to remember everything in that list and I try to write down, to the best of my ability, each item in that list using some sort of symbol. But by then, much of the rest of the sentence has already run me by, and I'm still stuck trying to make sure I accurately take down the necessary information. Then when the time actually comes I'm like a fish out of water.
I'm not quite sure how to fix this. Of course it gets easier when I repeat the sentence several times, but in an actual interpretation that is not a very likely scenario. Sorry I have to vent, but my brain is really struggling.

Just my opinion but I would not worry too much about taking notes at this stage One of the teachers at the Interpretation course told me this (and if you have a notes system that works for you great but I found this was true for me a least, everyone should find a style/system that works for them personally ofc) that a lot of times when beginners esp try to take notes they end up concentrating too much on the notetaking and it ruins their concentration on what the person is actually saying. Usually I mostly write down numbers/names etc. that I don't want to get wrong etc. but keep the notes to a minimum and focus on listening mostly.

Thank you for the advice. I find I do do better when it comes to focusing on listening, but still so far I think a problem for me is when a lot of specific terms/kanji come out in rapid succession (like in lists) and I have little time to collect my thoughts or articulate in my brain what those words refer to in time. I guess this should get better with time, but it's still been a bit distressing for me at this stage (which is admittedly very early).

For the love of all that is holy I cannot find the words to describe these two kanji sets. 廃車済 未廃車 ahaha I did and I've definitely seen those words on the paperwork XD (I'm going to shiyakusho tomorrow to file it actually hue) I would prob translate as 廃車済 deregistered 未廃車 currently registered (with previous owner) looked at a few city websites with English info on it (ref: Kawasaki City, Nagoya International Center GOSAMKOH NI) saw some places put disposal but imo disposal implies you're throwing it out, when in this case it refers to the vehicle being deregistered not necessarily being thrown away/scrapped (it has to be deregistered to switch ownership)

I need some help...
Any good reference for Covid19 related forms/letter for close contacts? Been working on this and taking me forever coz I surely do not want to mess this up ORZ
And also how do you handle this
_______月____日 ( )から _______月____日 ( )まで
I am assuming it would be the time for () so no problem.
Would it be acceptable to do it like this?
from ___(M)___(D) () to ___(M)___(D) ()

Yes, that should be fine, but I would make sure to leave a little more space than normal because people's handwriting can be really messy.

Sorry for posting again...
I am just wondering if anyone of you remembers how long it took you to finish translating fillable letters and forms (I always have to fix the format to make the English easy for the eyes). With all these terms I have to research on etc...it takes me a while especially this is my very first translation job...I am losing confidence and I have another one waiting for me plus I have upcoming duties (school visits, presentations, reports). I switch in between though whenever I am stuck with something and just do the parts I can.
I think today is my 10th day at the office...but yeah...I feel like a failure doing my job right now

The ones I work on are usually multi-page and have lots of small text so breaks are really necessary. Probably the most work-intensive projects. your strategy in switching parts when you are stuck sounds good. don't be too hard on yourself if you can help it -- you're just starting the job and it sounds like you have a lot on your plate. if you think it will take more time to do a proper job than the deadline they've given you, it might be good to try to negotiate an extra day or two on the deadline just so you and the iraisha are on the same page.

Glad it is normal to feel that way! Yeah, same here I get tired of looking at it and been comparing what is the best wording, too. Same here, the 2 pages I was wroking on - had a lot of small texts too. Thanks a lot

If someone ever bothers you about it after giving you a really short deadline - then you should ask them if they never wrote an email without making a mistake/typo. That is why you need time to at least check your document twice.

恩給法別表
This is for the Sick and Wounded Retired Soldiers Certificate and I just...can't seem to find this chart already translated somewhere into English. Has anyone else dealt with that certificate to know what sort of disability pensions happen to be linked to this?
I asked my work for help months ago, but...................................they basically have said things like 'IDK, good luck'.
旧軍人等に対する特例傷病恩給 is just not eiyakable for me right now I mean the law.

Hi everyone~
I'm sorry if these are dumb or repeated questions.
I'm a first year CIR in quarantine now, and I'm wondering if there are any translation/interpretation resources or references you all use to increase the efficiency of your translating?
Also, I just completed my first translation job, but I was wondering how you all go about getting your work proofread? I want to have a second opinion before submitting, but I can't ask my supervisor or the other folks at the kencho, so I'm not sure who to ask...any suggestions?
Thanks so much!

I want to have a second opinion before submitting, but I can't ask my supervisor or the other folks at the kencho, so I'm not sure who to ask...any suggestions? Thanks so much! Hey tearight! Welcome to the forums. First and foremost, I'd look through some of the other threads in this area of the forums. You could start here for interpretation stuff and here for translation stuff. In particular, miscreative has a good post here with translation resources. I know that I personally use linguee.com often because it's a database of translations, as well as weblio and some other online dicitonaries. In regards to getting 英訳 proofread, I think many of don't have any other native speakers to ask for this (when I was on JET my supervisor/kakali long would look at them, but they weren't native English speakers). Because of this, I often found that waiting a day (or even just a few hours), and then going back and rereading it with a fresh set of eyes was my best bet, and usually helped me produce higher quality translations. If you're asking about proofreading for 和訳, then I would also suggest waiting a day and taking another look, but for both my current job and when I was on JET, my supervisor or some other native speaker would always make revisions before we published anything (I think many other CIRs have the same experience). Do you have a tanto you can ask to take a quick look? That's generally how I've heard it works for most CIRs. Sorry I can't really provide much more advice besides that. I hope this helps!
