窓口で負担した額の1か月の合計から千円を差し引いた金額を助成します。 I am lost with the 千円を差し引いた part. "minus 1000 yen"?? So the subsidy is the monthly total minus 1000 yen that's how I understand it

Totally not an urgent request but I'm curious, how would you translate the following words into English? It's for children describing their own emotions. うらやましい 恐ろしい くらい 怖い I went with Jealous Terrified Melancholic (they already had sad for 悲しい, and I thought about saying depressed but that's 憂鬱 right? Should I have said "I feel down"?) Scared

Scared hmmm I'm kind of confused by osoroshii, I don't think I've heard someone use that to describe their own state of feeling. to me my mind automatically jumps to terrify ing instead but idk I think I would have said down or upset for kurai. melancholic is too high of a register for how it's used, imo jealous and scared tho are both hanamarus from me

Doing my first big native check project for the city theater, and the gyosha have translated a bunch of stuff funky (I don't have all the original Japanese though).
For any theater nerds, is there a special noun used to describe a flat, open floor space? My understanding is that it's supposed to mean an open space without chairs, so I assumed a standing section but then they added seats to that so now I'm not sure... (plus just internally hueing about it being called a flat floor. Like what other kind of floor would there be xD )
The gyosha English text is as follows:
"An example of the flat floor Approximately 1,000 stnading + 98 2nd floor seats"
The orignal Japanese says:
平土間利用 例)スタンディング約1,000人+2階席 98席

I was so confused, because the other three describe your own emotions. I asked for clarification and I was given the context of "when you see a Yakuza member and theyre 恐ろしい人" and I'm like okay, they're terrifying and you're terrified but...it's not your own emotion, it's your opinion of someone else... Yeah "I feel down" or "upset" would have been a better match. It's for teaching beginner Japanese learners but they're going to get so confused by osoroshii rip

平土間 I think usually refers to the pit or orchestra area directly in front of the stage ooh Dee I think you just saved me, I'll confirm that with the theater but that makes a lot of sense, so I'm thinking you're right

Anyone got an idea for how to translate "How can I help you?" in the context of a shop?

What kind of shop is it?
Though I don't feel like shop staff generally approach me in Japan and ask questions like that, even if they're helpful when I come up to them to ask for help

Any kind of shop hue. Yeah I know, that's the problem. I feel like いらっしゃいませ kinda doesn't quite cut it here.

I'm doing subtitles for a wildlife video and I need some help hue The bit I'm struggling with is「この頃、ハマシギたちは夏羽から冬羽へと衣替します。これを「換羽」といいます」 I have it as 'Around this time, dunlins exchange their summer plumage for winter plumage. This is called molting' The thing is, molting is only for when they lose feathers, not when they get more right? I can't find a word for the other way round If there are any bird experts among us, お願いします

I think it's understood that the molting process includes losing and/or gaining feathers. By definition, molting is the process of replacing feathers

Translating an event notice and juggling a couple different ways to name the event
「成果発表会」
"Results Presentation" "Outcomes Presentation"
or if anyone has another suggestion, I'm open to that as well

It's an event where a cohort of students will talk about their work over the past year (and I get the vibe that it's a once a year thing?), so I feel like announcement makes it sound more important haha

the city is offering a special weekend collection of certain kinds of 粗大ゴミ stuff
for the location/address part, I want to give more detailed information than what is included in the Japanese, because when you Google what non-Japanese speakers will assume the name of the facility is, nothing comes up on Google maps.
Basically, Tall Cape City Reuse Center is the place that is accepting the 粗大ゴミ, but from what I can see in the pictures on Google is that this reuse center looks to be located within the grounds, or like using the grounds? of the NTT東日本-関信越 (town name)倉庫
so do you think it would make sense if I wrote both the romaji address and: located inside the NTT Higashi Nihon Kanshinetsu (town name) warehouse grounds
(also, if that does make sense, do you think warehouse grounds plural, ground singular, or another word like property is better?)

I think that would make sense to include just so people can be extra clear. (I could imagine someone driving up and then seeing the NTT sign and thinking they got the wrong place). And I think grounds plural is good too

harro, what is "arts and crafts" in japanese
we're making turkey cups for the thanksgiving event, and we've been using 作り体験 as a placeholder.
図画工作? 工芸?
